Heavy snowfall on North Korea's Mount Kumgang could threaten an upcoming round of reunions
for families separated by the war. An official at the Unification Ministry said
Tuesday that Mount Kumgang had seen over two meters of snow as of Monday.
The official said a South Korean delegation left for the North this morning to inspect
the site, following an emergency meeting on Monday night.
Nine snowplows are working around the clock to clear the site in time for the reunion
event slated for February 20th to the 25th, but at least one more snowfall is expected
before then. The official said the reunions have taken
place in the past when Mount Kumgang had over one-and-a-half meters of snow,... adding that
no major problems arose because of the snow.
