My most memorable claim was a family whose house burned to the ground and they had nothing left.
I followed the rebuilding progress over a period of two years.
And, once the claim had been completed, I made a social visit to them in order to celebrate with them.
Claims Inspector Helper in time of need
Baloise Insurance places great trust in me, to the extent that I am basically like a sole proprietor.
I am solely responsible for the processing of claims, so all the correspondence is done by me.
This includes assigning tradespeople, calculating insurance payouts and, of course, providing advice
and information to the client, as well as conducting negotiations with various bodies.
About 50-60 per cent of our time is spent outside the office.
...and everyone is effectively a client for us, whether they are the actual client or a tradesperson or another partner working with us.
I did an insurance apprenticeship and then worked for a couple of years in the Claims department.
I then moved to Sales, but, in line with the motto 'once the Claims department, always the Claims department',
I eventually returned to Claims.
There are a number of ways in which one can become a Claims Inspector.
My way was that I came from a technical background and then pursued further education on the commercial side.
I ended up in Sales at an insurance company
and then applied to the Claims department.
You definitely need to enjoy making decisions and being communicative.
You have to be able to stick to a certain line and push things through in some cases as well.
You are also in touch with clients and other bodies every day, whether on the telephone or face-to-face.
You have to be a bit of a 'people person'.
At Baloise Insurance, I really appreciate the fact that the managers are always there to help if needed and that they are very loyal to us.
As well as the modern working tools that are made available to us. You can also work from home.
And what I really like about our unit is that we are always there for each other.
Colleagues are always on hand if you need help.
It is a very friendly place.
