It’s almost here. That’s what Apple’s saying in an invitation sent to media outlets,
anyway. CNBC has more on Apple’s September 12th event.
“They’re going to have a big announcement. You look at your screen, if you’re just
tuning in. There’s a big hint — look at the shadow — it’s not a 12, it’s a five.
That would be a hint that the iPhone 5 is coming, we all presume.”
Speculation has abounded for months over the iPhone 5. Not just about when. But about what.
Gizmodo says the rumors run quite the range — including a two-tone unibody design, a
smaller dock connector, 4G LTE connectivity, a larger 4-inch display and even redesigned
earbuds.
A writer for USA Today says — faster processor, bigger screen — none of it matters. People
want Apple’s new phone regardless. And Apple needs them to want it.
“...a lot of diehards have been holding out for the next iPhone. Apple's earnings
were recently softer than some expected because consumers are believed to be waiting for the
iPhone 5.”
That article also cited a survey by electronics deal aggregator, TechBargains.com, indicating
nearly 75 percent of iPhone 4 owners plan to upgrade when the 5 hits.
As for Apple’s competitors? Apparently they’re not waiting. HLN explains.
“ … they don’t want to be in a comparison. They want to get their own splash. So, Motorola,
Nokia and Amazon all lining up to put out their own devices.”
SlashGear reports Apple’s September 12th event will take place at San Francisco’s
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
