>>Skoda recently launched the Laura RS at a price of Rs. 15.49 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
This 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine powered car has been built purely for enthusiasts.
However, there’s nothing different in the engine compared to the 1.8 Classic Laura.
The engine puts out 160 bhp of power at 4,500 to 6,200 rpm and a healthy 250 Nm of torque
at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm, thanks to the turbocharger. But this engine is mated to a short-shifting
six-speed gearbox, which helps in building speed rapidly.
The car is not equipped with many luxury features found on other Skoda Laura models – such
as climate control and steering mounted audio controls. Instead, it is kitted out with plenty
of sporty bling to give it that rally car look. The pedals for instance are drilled
aluminium. There’s a body kit all around. It gets an electrically operated sunroof,
adaptive HID headlamps and LED daytime running lamps, besides nice-looking 16-inch alloy
wheels that wear low-profile 205/55 R16 tyres. And yes, the car can thrill you on the track,
as we discovered in Gurgaon. Two Laura RS cars driven by rally drivers showcased their
capabilities. The Laura RS is equipped with plenty of safety
features to makes sure you’re always in control when you drive the car. These include
ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake force distribution) which prevents the
wheels for locking up under heavy braking and keeps the car under control, anti-slip
regulation which prevents excessive wheel spin when you speed off from standstill and
traction control, which cuts engine power to prevent wheels from spinning out of control
and losing grip. The Laura RS also has higher rated springs to cope with the excessive demands
from enthusiastic drivers. To see more on what you could do with a Skoda
Laura RS, watch our video. Just don’t ask about mileage, but well, if you have to know,
Skoda claims 13.4 kmpl from the Laura RS, but if you drive it the way it’s being driven
by rally driver Lallie Sangha in the video, just expect more fun per mile, rather than
kilometers per litre….
