ABE ***: Hi. Welcome to Expert Village, my name is Abe ***. I'm going to take you through
step by step to shape yourself a complete surfboard. Once you've got everything just
basically flat, then you can get into your full planes. Again, knowing your tools is
key. The planer, I have an adjustable head Clark Foam planer when they're around. It
makes the planer a little easier to adjust as you go. Some people--if you don't have
access to one of these types of planers, get yourself a normal planer, and it's just going
to be a little bit different adjusting as you go. You won't be able to make these quick
hand adjustments on the ply. You'll just have to make it up later. But principle is the
same. The front table drops and the blades get exposed, and that's what's going to plane
out your board here. You want to hold that nice and flat. Don't let it twist. I usually
start off by planing the stringer line first. Some guys start on the rail. It's your personal
preference at this point. There's no right or way to shape a board, right or wrong, I
should say.
Once you've planed out the one side, you want to match the outside on the other.
