Today the women legislators in both the house and the senate were inducted into Troup 1912 which stands for the year
of Girl Scouting and its beginning and its beginning one hundred years ago. I was a girl
scout and a brownie scout before that. When I think about my experiences in Girl Scouting,
I learned so many wonderful lesson; of course I was an expert cookie salesman but in addition
to that I learned how to be competitive with the other girls but I also learned how to
be supportive of each other. We built, even at a very early age, a sisterhood that I still
depend today. My favorite thing about girl scouts is probably
because you can be yourself around your entire troupe. We have a very diverse troupe; nobody’s
from the same group or anything at school so I think that’s really cool.
I have sold 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies for two years in a row.
My favorite thing about Girl Scouts is being able to be with my friends and accomplish
things. My favorite thing about Girl Scouts is even
though its only… well actually its everyone in the world but you get to make new friends
a lot and its… you get to learn new things every day.
And we learned lessons, specific lessons, in order to earn our merit badges about astronomy
and communications and lots of things way back then. Today’s Girl Scouts learn about
business and how to have confidence in themselves and each other.
My favorite Girl Scout Cookie would either be the Samoas or the Tag Alongs!
The Samoas! The Thin Mints!
Dolce de Lecce! Scouting for me was a wonderful start down
the road to adulthood and I highly recommend Girl Scouting for girls in today’s world.
It was a wonderful experience for me and I hope my grandchildren participate.
