deskUNPDF Pro lets you convert PDF files to fully editable formats, which can then be
modified. To begin, simply open up the deskUNPDF Pro program. You can open up your PDF files
by selecting file - open from the toolbar, or click the open button from the menu bar.
You can see the preview of the output here in the center of the screen. The settings
pane on the left hand side lets you pick which format you want to convert to. Microsoft Office
formats include Word and Excel formats. Open office includes .odt. Image formats include
bitmap, jpg, png, and tifs. Web formats include html, xhtml and scalable vector graphics format
or svg. Data formats include xml & .csv. Other formats include a plain text conversion and
lrf conversion for Sony Reader. So let’s convert this PDF to Microsoft Word.
You can see the pdf is now opened as an editable Word document, accurate to the original PDF.
The 2nd way to convert a file using deskUNPDF is to drag and drop the icon of the file to
the convert with deskUNPDF icon on the desktop. Again you have the preview of the PDF, and
you can convert.
One of the useful features of deskUNPDF Pro is the table detection, which allows you to
convert a PDF to Excel format. So here is a PDF with some data. To convert this with
deskUNPDF you can either open it in deskUNPDF, drag and drop it to the icon, or the 3rd way
to convert to deskUNDPF is to simply right click the file, choose deskUNPDF. You can
open it in the UNPDF program or open it directly in Word, Excel or Open Office writer. You
can also convert it in place to essentially all of the formats that are available as outputs
in deskUNPDF. So let’s choose Microsoft Excel.
You can see the spreadsheet opens up and the data has now been taken out of the PDF and
is in editable format. The 4th way to convert with deskUNPDF is to convert directly from
Word, and I’ll show you how to do that. When you open up Microsoft word, navigate
to the addins tab, choose open PDF with deskUNPDF. I’m going to open a map of a state park
here.
And as you can see, deskUNPDF has run in the background and converted this map of a state
park to Word. To demonstrate the quality of the deskUNDPF conversion, lets look at the
original PDF.
