Brought to you by the Transfer Center, start here,
go anywhere.
The transfer process can become extremely confusing, with learning university admission reqirements,
major preparation, and deadlines. Successful transfer students make it their responsibility
to "link up", with Transfer Center Services, as early as their first semester.
Allowing for new ideas early on can definitely expand your educational options and opportunities.
So, here's a story of five students who will share with you what Transfer Center service has impacted them the most.
What I used the most is, I definitely used the
the visits with the University reps a lot, because you can make an appointment with them,
you can ask them what they need, what you need to do in order to get to the school that you want to go into
and these are people actually are from the school itself, so you have the information first hand
and
to me, the most valuable thing about the Transfer Center is the tours they offer.
If you're never going to do anything at Cerritos College, and you want to transfer, you definitely have to go on one of those tours
because
you could look at a pamphlet and see pictures of a school and it might look really great on paper,
but until you step foot on the campus itself
you really can't make an informed decision about what school you're going to go to.
For example, say UC Davis is your first choice, and you visit the campus, you don't like it,
and Santa Barbara was your last choice. But, then when you go to the Santa Barbara campus, it's really beautiful, there's a beach right next
door
and all of a sudden, it becomes your first choice. Just know that the staff here are just truly amazing
You build this personal relationship with
your counselor and they'll help you every step of the way.
Um, my first semester here, I actually, uh,
they actually gave me an educational plan, but every semester, I made sure that I met with that same counselor
every time, because there's always something new, or something changes, and sometimes I need
that motivation as a student to keep going,
so that helped me big time.
Going on university tours have had the most impact on my career here at Cerritos
College,
I would advise everybody to try that out, because going there, you're able to hear real-life
testimonies from previous Cerritos College students, and you just get to know how they made it there, and just to know you're on the right
path or whatnot.
The program that had the most impact on my transfer process was the Psych program at UCLA,
which is promoted through the Transfer Center.
It was a 5-day residential program
at UCLA, and it gave you the opportunity to link up with different, uh,
Admissions reps from the different colleges. You got to speak to people in Housing and
in Financial Aid, and you were also mentored by transfer students, that have
transfered from community colleges, into the UC system. Also, the University tours,
uh... work, made a difference for me because,
they give me an opportunity to get a feel
for life on campus, as a student, and whether I saw myself walking through the lecture halls.
But most importantly, I
had the opportunity to
meet with counselors and ask about the programs that they offered,
and whether they were best fitted for me.
I would like to
reach out to future transfer students
and say that, please take advantage of the resources that are offered on campus, because these
will be tools that you would need to successfully transfer out into your university of choice.
Let's get you started. Remember, tours help you comprehend your choices,
Educational plans help you stay focused, and educational prep programs helped you link up.
