The Department of Immigration and Citizenship significantly contributes
to building Australia's future, through the well managed entry and settlement of people.
For 65 years the department has managed the visa approval
and settlement of nearly 7 million people from all corners of the globe.
Working in partnership with a range of government agencies and
collaborative partners, the department works to deliever Immigration outcomes
for those wishing to visit or settle in Australia. In a single year
Immigration may grant more than 4 million permanent and temporary visas
for travel to Australia, confer citizenship on more than 1 hundred thousand
new Australians, process about 26 million passenger and
crew arrivals and departures accross its borders, and provide advice to
more than 2 million telephone callers through contact centres in Sydney, Melbourne
London, and Ottowa. These services are provided through a network of
offices in each state and territory of Australia, and 68 locations
overseas. The department works to the three strategic themes of
being an open and accountable organisation, ensuring fair and reasonable
dealings with clients, and having well trained and supported staff.
Encapsulating these key themes is DIACs motto. People
our business.
