Hi and welcome to this video from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library. Today we're
going to show you how you can install the Overdrive App on to your iPad or other mobile
device in order to download eBooks and audiobooks from the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library's
Downloads 2 Go site.
So the first thing you want do after you power up your iPad is to tap on the 'App Store'.
If you have an Android device, you'd want to tap on the 'Google Play Store'. Once you're
in the store you want to tap on the search box and what we're looking for is the 'Overdrive
Media Console'. So if I just start typing in the first few letters of Overdrive, it
should come up on the list here. Once again we want to tap on 'Overdrive Media Console'.
At that point it gives us options to either install this for the iPad or the iPhone. We're
using an iPad; obviously we'd want to do that. Usually it would say 'Free' here and you would
have to tap on 'Free' first. I have already installed this particular program on this
iPad so it's just telling me to install. But once again 'Free' and then 'Install' if you
see those. Tap on 'Install'. It'll go ahead and start installing the application on to
my iPad, so we'll wait for that for a few seconds.
So the Overdrive application is now installed. I'm going to tap on it. The first thing it's
going to ask you as soon as you open it up is to enter in an Adobe ID. An Adobe ID basically
allows the library to know what books you have checked out and how long they're checked
out for. Any iPad or mobile device, you're going to have to sign up for this ID and enter
it. If you have one already you can tap on Sign In, if not you can always tap on Register
at Adobe.com. I'm going to tap on 'Sign In'. Like I said we already have one here, but
even at this screen if you tap on 'Get a free Adobe ID', it will whisk you away to the Safari
web browser and actually take you to the Adobe site where you can sign up. You would simply
just tap on 'Create an Adobe Account'. A familiar form would come up. Basically your Adobe ID
is your email and a password. So you would enter in those and then you can go in and
enter in the other information that has the red asterisks next to it.
I'm going to back to the app because like I said we already have an Adobe ID. I'm going
to go ahead and enter that in -- I'm going to paste it in. Enter in the password I have
associated with that. And then I'll tap on 'Authorize'. Now with this one Adobe ID I
can authorize up to six different devices to use with the Downloads 2 Go program and
the Overdrive app. So if I have another iPad or if I have a Nook or some sort of Android
device -- an Android phone, I can certainly just go ahead and use the same ID with that.
So basically you only have to sign up for your Adobe ID once.
We're looking at the bookshelf view within the Overdrive application. They actually check
out a little practice audiobook here for you, but what we have to do is to let the application
know where we're getting our books from which is the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
So what you'd want to do at this point is tap on 'Get Books +' which is up in the corner
here. And then you're going to tap on 'Add a Library'. At this point we're going to tap
in the 'search' area, we're going to switch to numbers here, and tap in the zip code '14203',
then tap on 'Search'. At the top you'll see Central Library, that's what we want. You
may see your individual branch down below here, but do not tap on your individual branch,
make sure you tap on just 'Central Library'. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. At this
point it gives a little information about the Central Library. It's important, we must
to activate this, we must tap on this 'Star' that's right on the left hand side here. Once
we tap on the Star it turns gold. We have added this as a place where we can download
eBooks from. You can go ahead and click 'Cancel 'at this time or tap 'Cancel'. And you see
'Buffalo and Erie County Public Library' is a place where you can Get Books from. And
if I tap on that it will actually take us to our web browser, right into the Downloads
2 Go page on the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library's web site and we can browse for books
or do a search for books.
So that's it, your iPad is all ready to download books and look for books via the Buffalo and
Erie County Public Library. Thanks for watching!
