I don't get anything out of Church. Why would I go?
What does being part of a Church, really do for me?
God and I have a great relationship-without Church.
Aren't the best times in your life the moments and the times that you've shared with other people?
Think about the difference between listening to music at home and going to a concert.
Or the difference between watching a Packers game in your living room and actually being at Lambeau Field.
When I think of my life, the best moments were the moments
filled with the people that I cared about.
I remember all of my family vacations as a kid,
all of us together in the car going someplace or just enjoying each other... enjoying the ride.
I think about when my brother Patrick died of liver cancer at the age of ten
and our home was filled with family and friends.
That could be a moment that really tests faith,
but we found support and strength because the community of faith
rallied around us and loved us and consoled us.
Church is like that.
Church is this community of people sharing faith together,
and we realize that we can't make that faith journey alone.
Yes, I can pray in my living room and find God in the rising sun, perhaps...
but I need the community and the community needs me.
Often times, we think "if I don't get anything out of Church, I'm not gonna go."
Let's flip that around and say, "folks in Church need you, need me,"
"Need our witness, need our prayer, need our concern."
Any experience shared is an experience blessed and enriched.
So too, with faith. When we share faith, we build each other up.
We carry each other, we pray for each other, we need each other.
We all want to feel that we're part of something bigger and that there's somebody out there that cares about me.
It's how God made us.
I can't make it to Heaven alone.
I need you to carry me, and I'm here to carry you.
