Is winter getting in the way of your getting around? Did you know that every time a weather
alert is issued, we carry out a series of actions to maintain service and get you to
your destination on time?
In winter, the AMT team works in close collaboration with its partners to adhere to train schedules
in both the morning and evening. To do so, we have put forward a winter plan that we
share with our partners every September to ensure that the rolling stock is ready to
face winter conditions.
When the cold weather and snow arrive, we deploy extra teams across the network to de-ice
and clear the snow from switches to make sure that trains always stay on schedule.
When it gets very cold, we pay special attention to train doors, which need to be cleaned and
de-iced more often.
Because it's electrified, the Deux-Montagnes line is a somewhat unique case. During freezing
rain periods, we keep a train running from Deux-Montagnes to Montreal to clear the catenary
and ensure customer service.
To minimize the frequency and effects of breakdowns, the participation of our partners is essential.
Before each morning and evening departure, a maintenance team starts the locomotives
earlier to ensure timely departures and offer heated cars for our customers' comfort.
Whenever a storm is announced, we make conference calls with the operators, Canadian National
and Canadian Pacific.
Snow clearing teams clear platforms during off-peak hours to ensure customer safety.
Because our customers are always our primary concern, in the event of major breakdowns
or service disruptions, we are developing an alternate bus service plan jointly with
our partners.
No matter what we do, winter is a critical season because extreme weather conditions
have a direct impact on our infrastructure and rolling stock. That's why each of the
5 train lines has its own Twitter account, to quickly notify you of service disruptions.
Also sign up to our TRAIN-ALERT service to receive notifications via SMS or email when
disruptions occur. Or visit our website for alerts and advisories or our mobile site for
ongoing information.
Lastly, dynamic display screens are gradually being installed in all our train stations
so customers can always know what's happening on our network.
