Welcome to the jungle.
This the Hortus Botanicus.
This is one of my favorite spots in Amsterdam.
I love to leave the city behind and hang around plants.
The focus of the botanic gardens...
is on South African plants.
Since I come from South Africa, every time I visit this place...
it reminds me of home.
In my garden in South Africa, we used to have one like this too.
But that one was immense.
Or maybe I was smaller...
No, I really think it was much bigger.
I really love nature. If I could...
I would hang around here all the time, and once in a while...
go back to the city, and do shows.
You lose a part of yourself, when you are...
in the city for too long. At least, that's what happens to me.
I don't feel as if I behave differently on stage.
I am who I am...
because I went looking for different places all the time.
This is also the inspiration I need right now...
to be able to create what I create.
We're now in the tropical supermarket...
called Highway, my favourite supermarket in Amsterdam.
And it's tropical.
What I like about this store is that there's a mixture of cultures...
and it enriches my life...
by...
By offering all kinds of natural products.
They even have their own greenhouse, where they grow their own crops.
Here they have a whole area of spicyness...
Here are the hot sauces.
nice chutneys...
My mouth is already watering.
There's so much to see in this store...
There are so many colors and so many smells.
And I love the tropical feeling which is everywhere in this store.
This inspires me a lot.
I think it's such a cool place...
I decided to shoot the new Skip&Die video here.
Jungle Riot.
It's a nice song, yeah.
It's nicely done as well.
Especially that little dance.
There's something about it...
We have to get used to it I guess...
I've never heard of it before, but it is something special.
It reminds me of that song by M.I.A...
that Sri Lankan girl.
That was the first thing that popped into my head.
The same genre. I don't know what genre that is.
It seems a bit like that.
Well, this is a really important place to me as well.
This is our studio, for Skip&Die.
This is where we just finished our record.
You could say that this is where the magic happened.
This is Jori, we met each other here.
I call him Crypto Jori, but his name is Jori Collignon.
He is the producer of Skip&Die...
and we started Skip&Die together.
So, we know each other for quite some time already...
and we really enjoy working together.
I actually went for the name The Tropical Beaches...
but Cata needed to add something 'dead'.
Cata has many different sides, you could say...
she can be really happy, excited and enthusiastic...
but she's also very emotional, so she can be sad about things.
It kind of depends on the moment, you could say.
OK, I went from here to here...
and here on San Miquel, I lived or a couple years.
After that, we moved to The Netherlands.
Then I moved to my best friend, who lived on Ibiza.
Then I moved to Buenos Aires, in Argentina.
After that, I moved back to The Netherlands.
It seems as if...
I travelled very far...
But this whole area, I've never visited.
Hopefully I will, someday.
When we started making music together...
There was a lot of need for adventure in the base of it.
We wanted to travel a lot and meet all kinds of different people.
There are all kinds of different beats you can dance to...
all around the world.
I notice how it inspires me during my journeys..
If you drive through the mountains in an rickety van...
listening to music played by the radio through distorted speakers...
That inspires me to make those sounds my own.
We're no purists, so we can just mix everything we like.
I doesn't need to match a certain genre.
We can find a place in all kinds of different genres.
And that...
That is real freedom.
Oh yeah, these are my favorites too...
These are carnivorous plants.
So you'd better watch out.
I just fingered a plant. Score!
