For years now we have been hearing requests to have this Little Green Book series digitized
and for the first time with SRMO all of these books will be going online. It’s something
we’re hearing people are really looking forward to.
The Little Green Books, The Quantitative Applications in Social Sciences were a key pieces of innovative
publishing that Sara Miller McCune started many decades ago but they have continued through,
I think, their 150th volume. Those books are seen as the kite mark of high quality research
books for scholars around the world.
The Little Green Books are just an iconic publication for SAGE. They’ve been around
for many, many years. If you pick up and look at one it really doesn’t look like it’s
changed some of them since 1970, but they are some of THE most used books that we have
in our publications. I was talking to a librarian at the American Libraries Association meeting
earlier this year and she said they were THE one publication that if anybody was going
to steal it from the library those would be the ones that would disappear, and she had
to reorder so often because people would walk out with them in their pockets. So they’re
obviously very popular and librarians are really excited about having them available
in the library.
The Little Green Books are to SAGE literally what the Barbie doll was to Mattel Toys, THE
product that everybody identifies with the name of the company.
