Desktop is the first thing you see when you open Photoshop
Includes Title Bar - it is at the top of the window
that states the name of the picture. Status Bar - it is in the bottom left corner
of the window and shows you different activities that are going on the screen
Document sizes - it shows you the flatten size (left) adds up all the layers if you
were going to store it into one fill by the size of the file (right). Allows you to track
the size of your file if you only have an allotted amount of space.
Document profile - tells you the profile of color uses and the number of bits per channel.
Document dimensions - allows you to see the dimensions of the active picture in different
forms Measurement Scale
Current tool - shows you the active tool Menu Bar - gives you file, edit, etc... menus
Option Bar - it is at the top of the window below the menu bar and it gives you specific
options depending on what tool you use Tool Bar - it is at the left of the window
and it gives you the majority of the tools that are needed for editing pictures. There
are tools that are hidden behind other tools and you click in hold on the tool to see the
hidden tools. Dock - it is at the right of the window and
is divided into panels that gives you more tools that you can use
Panels are a collection of tabs Contains sliders, buttons, drop-down lists,
pop-up menus, and other controls To expand a panel or make it active, just
click on it You can only open one tab at a time
Grab the panels to move them where you want them
Close panels by unchecking them in the Window menu
The Window Menu Arrange - allows you to arrange your open
files Consolidate all to tabs - takes all your open
files and tabs them together under the option bar
Match Zoom - takes all open pictures and matches the magnification of your active files
Match Location - will match where you are viewing on all the open files
Match Rotation - will match all files to the rotation of the active file
Match All - will make all the match options activate
New Window - opens a new window of the same file while still being able to see the total
effects in the new window The rest of the options on the Window menu
allows you to activate different bars you might need in different situations.

Windows Adobe Bridge
Click file on the menu bar, click browse in bridge
Folders Panel in the upper left corner, click on computer, click on multimedia, etc. to
find your Photoshop folder Right-Click on the Photoshop folder, click
Add to Favorites Adding files, folders, application icons,
and other assts that you use often to the favorites panel allows you access them quickly
From your Photoshop folder, Click Lessons, Click Lesson 1, Open 01A_Start
File, Save As, Click on the Photoshop, Assignments, Save
Working with tools Click the double arrows at the top of the
bar - it toggles between double and single column
Click the double arrows again so it goes back to a single column
Zoom Hover your mouse over the magnifying glass
- when you hover over any of the tools it brings up a box that shows you what the tool
is and it also gives you the short-cut key to activate it.
Click on the magnifying glass - notice that the curser changes to a magnifying glass with
the plus sign meaning it will zoom in. Click anywhere on the picture and it zooms
in Hold down the Alt Key on the keyboard - notice
your curser changes to have a minus sign instead of a plus sign
While still holding the Alt key click on the image and it zooms out
Make sure the Scrubby zoom selection is clicked on the option bar, click and hold the mouse,
drag the mouse to the right - notice the picture is zoomed in
Do the same but go to the left - the picture is zoomed out
Marquee Position the pointer over the 2nd tool from
the top, it pops up and tells you that it is the Marquee tool
Click and hold on the Marquee tool, a hidden drop-down menu is revealed, select the Elliptical
Marquee tool - notice your curser changes to a plus sign
Position the curser to the upper-left of the headlight, click and hold, drag the pointer
away from the starting point, when you have a circle around the headlight release the
mouse Position the pointer in the middle of the
circle - notice the curser changes again Click and hold, drag the circle down and to
the right - notice just the selection moves not the headlight, that is a different tool
Drag the selection back to where it was Click Select on the menu bar, click deselect
- deselect takes all selections you made off the picture
Potistion the mouse in the center of the headlight Press and hold Alt and Shift, then click with
the mouse and drag outward to the edge of the headlight - alt and shift and the mouse
locks the ellipse to a perfect circle Once you have it perfectly selected release
the mouse first and then the keys, if you aren't satisfied with the exact location you
can move it Click view on the menu bar, click fit to screen
- that zooms the screen so you can see the whole file
Changing the selected area Click select and click invers - notice that
there is now a dancing border around the whole pictures while the headlight is still selected
as well Click the adjustments panel on the dock, click
the curves option and
the adjustments panel changes In the curves panel, click and drag the control
point in the upper-right corner straight left until the input states 204 and the output
states 255 - you can also type the values in the boxes
Play with it until you like how the headlight pops
Click file, click save, close just this 1A_start Options Bar and Other Panels
Mini Bridge Click the launch Mini Bridge on the option
bar - notice the mini bridge panel pops out Click browse files, select favorites in the
navigation area, select lessons folder, double-click lesson 1, select the 01B_end file (DO NOT
OPEN IT) PRESS THE SPACE BAR - NOTICE THAT THE SPACE
BAR OPENS WHATEVER IS SELECTED IN Preview View. You can't do any editing while in this
view Press the space bar again to close preview
view Scroll down, double click on 01B_Start to
open it Tool Properties
In the tool bar click the horizontal type tool - notice that the options bar changes
to having text options On the option bar, change the font to Garamond
Change the font size to 38 pt - you have to select what is in the size box and type 38
then press enter to set it Click anywhere on the left side on the picture,
begin typing Monday is Beach Cleanup Day. Click the move tool in the tool bar
Click and hold on the text that you typed and movie it until it is centered over the
bench Panels
On the swatches panel click the menu button, select small list - notice that it changes
the thumbnails of the colors to pictures and words about the colors
Click the text tool and select the text again, change the color to pastel violet magenta,
then change tools to notice the color change Save the picture as 01B_Start in your assignment
folder Undoing Actions
Undoing One Action Click Launch Bridge button, select 01C_END,
press shift on the keyboard, select 01C_Start-when you press shift it is like any other program,
it selects both pictures Off click to deselect both pictures, click
to open 01C_Start Save it as 01C_Start in your assignments folder
Notice on the Dock the Layers panel, click on the tie design layer
Click on the brush tool on the Tool Bar Click the arrow next to the brush tool on
the option bar, move the size slider to 65 pixels, click the 3rd option in the first
row (soft round pressure size brush), then click the arrow again - this drop-down menu
allows you to change the size of brushes depending on what you are doing
On the tool change back to the default color - there is default icon that is small right
above where the color appears Move the pointer over the image near the tie
so you paint on the tie Then click edit undo
Undoing Multiple actions Using the same brush tool create several dots
on the tie - do that by clicking just once on tie
Click window, click history - notice it brings up a history panel that shows
you all of the actions you have done Click on
the first appearance of the brush tool in the history panel - notice that
the other appearances become grey and the dots disappear on the tis you all of the actions
you have done Click on the first appearance of the brush
