Why do bodybuilders oil themselves up?
First, they do it because it is the standard look in most competitions.
I’ve heard that they do it for a number of reasons, not just because it is the current
fashion.
Oils may hide stretch marks.
Guys don’t get stretch marks.
Go from flab to fab and build your muscles up faster than your skin can expand, and yes,
guys can get stretch marks.
Why else do they oil up? It doesn’t hide their spray on tans.
It is often done to increase the appearance of muscle definition and make his skin look
smooth.
I’d think they’d want to lather up with aftershave after all the hair removal treatments
they did. These guys are trying to have the bodies of Greek gods.
And those statues show perfectly formed bodies without chest and underarm hair.
That’s hard to chisel into marble.
The oil shows off how smooth the skin is while possibly hiding stubble.
Not facial stubble.
I’d say the red raised bumps after shaving or the red skin left behind by last minute
waxing.
I’ve heard guys say it makes them look better. It just makes them look sweaty and filthy.
Some guys do oil up to look like they just spent hours lifting weights. It is the same
thing as the new lines of women’s makeup to make her look tan and dewy.
As if looking hot and sweaty from a day in the sun is the new sexy look.
It is a status symbol in a world where most people work indoors all day.
I heard some guys oil up to stand out, but that seems contradictory when they all seem
to do it.
Looking good is reason enough to do anything.
Thinking it makes you look good is reason enough to try.
And if it is par the course for competition, $5 of oil in the hope of winning $500 in prize
money and $5,000 in supplement endorsements is reason enough.
