Hi Anne! Thanks for contacting us about garden bed size.
In general, it's a good idea to keep raised beds around 4 feet wide or less, so you can
reach the center without stepping into the bed.
If you are going to plant against a fence or wall, stick to about 3 feet wide.
A depth of at least 8 inches will allow the roots on tomato plants, squash, cucumbers
and green beans to spread out in that juicy soil, but if you decided to work in some carrots
or other root vegetables, go to about 12 inches.
If you want, you can attach a trellis to one wall to give the green beans and tomatoes
something to grab onto.
