Mayor Cory Booker: Our governor has been a man who was dealt a very difficult hand of economic cards.
He didn't sign up for the job that he is in with any understanding that the entire globe's economy
would fall into this slump. But what he did do, is understand that given the conditions as they are, he was going
to meet them with a level of determination and creativity to craft for our state opportunities amidst this crisis.
He was one of the first people out of the box, not at the federal level or around the country that really
put together a phase one set of economic stimulus package that has done tremendous things already,
for cities like mine.
Senate President *** Codey: Let me just say this to Governor Corzine; first governor in the state,
in the nation, to have an economic stimulus package. Everybody else copied his. The first one!
And now we're here in this great train station, in the great City of Newark, once again creating, pardon the pun,
an economic engine. And believe me this helps, not just urban centers, but rural and suburbia as well.
Assemblyman Albert Coutinho: This is about being the most aggressive economic stimulus plan in the entire
country. There is no question about that. Anybody who knows about specifics, knows that they cannot
match this plan. Of course there are some of us out here in the state who have problems with specifics.
Dianne Brake: Previous administrations have talked the talk. Today we see someone who is willing to walk the walk.
Governor Corzine, PlanSmart New Jersey's proud to be here representing the Economic Development Coalition.
While you change the rules of the game, the rules that have for so long encouraged sprawl,
and created distressed communities. You are putting into place the tools to help New Jersey become better
positioned to compete for jobs and trade in the global market place in the years to come.
Joe Taylor: On behalf of those business leaders throughout the state, I applaud the balance this administration
has struck between creating a positive business environment, with a particular focus on stimulating
private investment in New Jersey's urban centers. In addition to the bill signing, the good news is that the
public and private sectors are working together to market this state to retain and create jobs.
You see evidence of that all around you up here today.
State Senator Ray Lesniak: This bill, that Governor Corzine is going to sign very shortly, means tens of thousands
of jobs and billions of dollars of private investment for our state, and that's a damn good thing.
Governor, thank you very much for signing this bill.
Mayor Cory Booker: I am so excited today about what's happening and I am not alone! We've got mayors
from Trenton, from Lambertville, from Hope, from Passaic, from other areas of our state who join me as mayors
in New Jersey and one common voice, giving our gratitude to our governor. Jon Corzine may have been
dealt a tough hand of cards, but what he is doing for us now is showing that we in New Jersey
do not equivocate in the face of challenges. We in New Jersey do not resign ourselves to economic downturn.
We in New Jersey when it comes to challenges, will not retreat one inch. What we have now is the
most exciting economic development package in the entire nation and there will be real tangible benefits
in the lives of New Jersey residents, and I say again, in the lives of Newark residents. I am very proud to
introduce now, Jon Corzine, who is in my opinion the juggernaut of jobs. He is the enemy of this
economic downturn. He is the dynamo of development in the State of New Jersey. He is the man,
that when it comes to Newark, New Jersey, truly is our hero. I give you, Jon Corzine.
Governor Jon Corzine: It is great to see so many people come together about taking the kinds of steps
that will make sure that New Jersey has the economic opportunity that we all want to see,
not only in recovery from the economic challenges that are a part of the national economic recession
but also to lay a foundation for a long-term-economic-growth in this state.
