Is it bad if a hemorrhoid pops?
It certainly makes for a bloody mess.
I’ve heard that it relieves the itching and pain.
True. But it also pops a blood vessel and makes a real mess of the toilet, or wherever
your rear was when it happens.
Can popped hemorrhoids heal?
Absolutely, though it would have been better to get the hemorrhoid tied off with a rubber
band and let it fall off.
I’ve never heard of that.
For some hemorrhoids, banding with what is essentially a rubber band pinches off the
blood flow for the hemorrhoid until it dries up and falls off. It is certainly less painful
than surgery to sew up the hemorrhoid.
All of which are a pain in the butt.
Literally. If it hurts after it burst, you could sit on an ice pack to reduce the swelling.
That’ll look weird.
You could sit in a sitz bath, too, the same type they recommend to reduce swelling and
itching of a hemorrhoid.
This is now a wound where I have to wipe myself. Do I need antibiotics to prevent infection?
Usually not, but you do have to keep the area clean.
Should I pop it myself like a pimple?
No, because you might make matters worse. Just talk to the doctor.
Who could pop it himself.
They’d prefer to do it surgically and in a sterile situation, not like popping a pimple.
What comes out of a hemorrhoid?
Usually, a blood clot.
I suppose that is better than pus, since the alternative to a hemorrhoid is an abscess.
You can have both in the same area. And a popped hemorrhoid not thoroughly cleaned up
can lead to an abscess.
Dang, this is a pain in the petard.
At least there are plenty of over the counter meds to treat this exact problem.
