And the news cycle goes round and round and round…
This is BuZz60 Politics, I'm Jay DeDapper.
There is nothing the news media abhors more than a story that doesn’t change. Remember
the first three letters of “news” spell new.
So as some smart political observers predicted weeks ago, the first Obama Romney debate gave
reporters the chance to – finally! – cast this race with a new storyline.
Mitt’s turnaround. Romney rebound. Obama on the ropes!
And while post-debate polls are all over the map one thing does seem have happened that
really is new.
Women in nearly every poll have decided Romney may not be so toxic after all. Which makes
his superfast flip flop on abortion inexplicable.
Romney told the Des Moines Register there’d be no new abortion legislation from his White
House.
To which Team Romney replied less than 2 hours later: we would “of course support legislation
aimed at providing greater protections for life.”
This is the kind of thing that sunk Romney with women in the first place and exposes
the dangers of his hard pivot away from all the conservative talk he put up in the primaries.
Then again voters seem to be nothing if not forgetful. If Obama can’t do something with
this his supporters really do have a reason to panic.
