Hey I need your help
Let me guess referencing right? Wrong ... advanced referencing ... haha what's up?
I took a quote from this
and a summary from this ... I'm using APA style but I don't know what information
to put
the first one is an edited book
and the second is a journal
How do you know?
The book has the editor's name on the front
and is quite thick
the journal has"quarterly" in its name and a volume and number on the front
and it's thinner
So what's the difference between an edited book and a journal?
An edited book is a stand alone book
even if updated editions are published, the content is almost exactly the same
but a journal is published a few times a year
and the content is always different
it's like a magazine with different issues, maybe every month or quarterly, which is
every three months
So, how do I write an end-of-text
reference for this page in the book?
start with the family name of the author of the chapter
then her initials, the year, the chapter title, and a full stop
then the word "In"
the editor's initials and family name
the word "Ed" in brackets
then title in italics
"pp" - the first and last page numbers of the chapter
the city and the publisher
okay I've gotten most of that right
What about the journal?
it's similar!
author's family name, initials, date, article title, journal title in italics, volume
number, issue number and first and last page numbers of the article
No need for a city and publisher? No!
how about the commas and colons? Use a program to do it for you!
Look at the library website ... it tells you all about them and gives you a free one
What are the common errors?
If there is more than one editor, use "Eds" with
an 's' at the end ... okay
and the nornmal end-of-text referencing common error ... put the references in
alphabetical order by family name
indent all but the first line of each reference and if the city is in
America, put in a two letter abbreviation for the state after it
such as "NY" for New York
OK
that's Oklahoma
What??
"OK" is the two letter abbreviation for the American state of Oklahoma
Is that where the word "okay" comes from? No, no one knows where okay comes from
read Wikipedia
Where can I find these two letter abbreviations for American states?
