GRANT SHAPPS: Well I'm here today, quite literally, cutting the red tape away
from town halls like the one behind me, and across the country.
We are getting rid of 5000 different bureaucratic rules
that local authorities have been told up to now
by ministers like me - they have to do.
And leaving it in your hands, at a local level, to decide.
So today we've announced the end, for example of those housing inspections
which were going to cost £1.5 million this year alone.
And we're going much further in providing de-ringfenced funding, albeit less of it
to you to decide what the priorities are for your local community.
The days of ministers like me telling you what should happen
in your local community - those days are over.
Now it's up to you to get out there and work for your communities,
and give them what they want. You've got a new boss today,
it's the electorate, it's your residents. So go serve them.
