Hello, I’m Ashley Howard from Scissorhands and welcome to our “Fix it” videos. They’re
very simple, they’re very short, but they will show you how you can fix everyday problems
that you come across in a salon. We’re going to show you the tools and the techniques.
So here we are, another “Fix it”. A common thing that we see every day: short layers.
In Kieran’s case a man’s haircut that has been done with a traditional solid blade
scissor. As you look at his hair you can see straight away where we get these blade marks
in his hair. As I turn Kieran around, again through the layers you’ll see these marks
through his haircut, something that you wouldn’t normally want to have in this style, but we
see it everyday. Very quickly, very simply, we’re going to be using the layering scissor
to give us a smoother finish to these layers, but also to allow him to put product through
his hair for a normal fashion look.
So going on to do the haircut now, David is going to show you a very simple scissor over
comb technique, because again Kieran’s on his lunch hour, we want to show you how we
can fix and adjust those layers with a simple scissor over comb technique. And as David’s
working, he’s picking up his guideline from the previous section and working through the
hair.
So, very quickly, in 2 minutes gone through the layers at the back of Kieran’s hair
to show you how we can remove those old lines from his haircut. We’re going to use exactly
the same technique now, where we go through the sides and eventually through the top of
Kieran’s hair. We’re now going to work our way through Kieran’s hair into the sides
you’ll see David just slowly to show you, picks up his guideline from the back section
into the sides with a simple scissor over comb technique. It’s nothing complicated,
there’s nothing technical, we’re just using the layering scissor to give us the
effect we want.
David is now going to cut the top of Kieran’s hair, this time using a traditional cutting
over the finger technique, but using the layering scissor to cut those layers. As we cut the
next section from his guideline will slowly cut, showing you this technique, which is…
1… 2… 3… through the top. This does 2 things. One is it removes those old lines
and cut marks that he had before, which gives us a soft effect and secondly, it creates
an internal texture to the haircut.
So we finished the gent’s haircut. From a technical point of view Kieran’s hair
is very fine and it’s quite difficult to cut with a solid blade, but by using the layering
scissor with the scissor over comb, you’ve seen how flawless and smooth you can make
those layers, but with the use of product you can see all the internal texture that
we’ve created as well. So there you have it, a simple gent’s haircut and from the
client’s point of view, Kieran, what do you think? “It’s fantastic. I love it.”
Well, thanks for coming in, and David, lastly, how long did it take you to finish this look?
“Yeah, it’s a great look on Kieran. It took approximately 15 minutes”.
Here you go. We hope you like it and thanks for watching.
