KRISTAL: Kristal Wick here and I'm excited about a new series called Artbeads Cafe. I'm
here with Cynthia Kimura, who is co-owner of Artbeads and also jewelry extraordinaire.
She's a fabulous jewelry designer. So I'm excited that Artbeads Cafe will be
showing you all kinds of new projects, products, really fun things, things that really excite
us. So we're excited to share this with you guys, our Beady Peeps. Now Cynthia, I know
a really big hot thing that's going around is kumihimo. Can you tell me a little bit
about that since I've never done it? CYNTHIA: Kumihimo is very popular right now,
and a lot of people don't know how to do it. So we're very excited to introduce this new
kumihimo kit for beginners. KRISTAL: Oh! Look at that! For beginners.
CYNTHIA: For beginners! So you'll be able to do it!
KRISTAL: Oh yay! Ok well, tell me. Look at all this.
CYNTHIA: Well you have everything in this kit. You have the plate, the bobbins, the
thread, even the glue. And the component s to finish itto make a necklace, and you
even have a little plastic bag to put all of your supplies in.
KRISTAL: Oh, a little carrying case. I love anything with a carrying case, don't you?
CYNTHIA: (laughs) yes. KRISTAL: Nice and organized.
CYNTHIA: Yes. KRISTAL: Great.
CYNTHIA: And then when you're done and you learn the technique then you can go to a more
complicated pattern. And we have some kits with different colors to make a bracelet.
KRISTAL: Oh, look at that. CYNTHIA: And again, everything is included
to make the bracelet. Except that plate, because you already have the plate.
KRISTAL: Sure. CYNTHIA: You already have the bobbins. But,
you have the beads; you have the clasps and the components, the thread, the glue. And,
like I said before, you have the beads. But, look at how much we have left.
KRISTAL: Those are extras? Ooh. Nice so you could actually probably make a couple more
bracelets out of that. CYNTHIA: Exactly.
KRISTAL: Oh, and again, look at -- they come in these cute little jewelry kits. I love
that. CYNTHIA: We're showing here only 3 kits but
we have more colors. KRISTAL: Oh great! That's great, Cynthia.
I'm going to dive in. CYNTHIA: Great!
KRISTAL: Cynthia, one of the things I like to do is called Kristal Wick's Picks. I like
to pick some of my favorite things and talk about them--share them---with my Beady Peeps.
And this time, I gotta tell you, the Lassero beads are wonderful. Wonderful. First of all,
they're completely embellished with Swarovski crystals. Now, do I need to say anything more
about that other than drool, drool, drool? Seriously. Look at these. I have had so much
fun playing with these. I've got hearts; we've got all kinds of little pillow hearts, and
look a little tiny purse. They're so cute and wonderful and blingy, and there's flowers.
And there's all kinds--I mean I just get so excited about this I can't even stand it.
I want the whole thing. For myself. But, now one of the things I want to talk about with
the Lassero--a couple of them have little loops on the bottom so that you can dangle
little things off of the bottom. That's really fun and another really, really cool thing
is if you're not such a blingy girl, like, you don't like a lot of Swarovski or a lot
of bling, some of the Lassero come just plain without the bling. So we've got some flowers
here, and we also have like I said the little purse, and some of these little bails come
just plain like that without any bling on them. So, either way, if you're a blingy gal
or you're not, you'll be happy with these beads--and they're the large-hole beads which
is really nice. They fit on all kinds of cords, and leather, and I did some seed beading here
and again we just have all kinds of colors to pick from. So this is really one of my
favorites as far as Kristal Wick's picks. I give this like 50 million thumbs up (laugh).
So I just wanted to share that with you. Dive in and have some fun.
KRISTAL: One of our segments is going to be the Q&A session where you beaders and readers
write in and ask us questions and we'll share some of our knowledge with you. And so I think
its really exciting for us to discuss some this, Cynthia.
CYNTHIA: Fine, and, you have a question for today?
KRISTAL: Actually our question comes from Susie in Ohio and Susie asks, "How do I use
the beautiful crimp tube covers?" I think this is a great question because my
crimps are always coming I shouldn't say always, but almost always-coming out lop sided
or ugly or not quite perfect, and I think crimp tube covers are really a pretty way
to hide it. So can you show me or tell me about this?
CYNTHIA: So, the crimp cover looks like a little bead but has an opening and like you
said it's to hide the crimp tube. And I love it also because it finishes your jewelry very
well and you don't see the crimp tube anymore, and you have this kind of a little silver
bead on the end between your bead and the clasp.
KRISTAL: So it looks more finished. CYNTHIA: Yes.
KRISTAL: Mmm. I love that, I love that. CYNTHIA: So it's very easy. After you did
your crimp tube, you just take your little crimp cover and with your flat nose pliers,
you try to slide the crimp tube in the crimp cover. And then you take your pliers and you
squeeze the bead very gently. KRISTAL: Ok, so it's almost like a little
mini taco. CYNTHIA: (laughs) exactly.
KRISTAL: Squeezing it together over the crimp tube.
CYNTHIA: Exactly. KRISTAL: Ooh, I love it.
CYNTHIA: And then you have a beautiful finish that you can see here.
KRISTAL: Oh, that's great. Well, Susie in Ohio, I hope we answered your
question about crimp beads! That was wonderful. Thank you so much, Cynthia. Thanks for joining
us! If you have any questions for us, please feel free to write at Artbeads.com and we'll
take a crack at it. Thanks for joining us at Artbeads Cafe, and
again, thanks Cynthia for giving your wonderful knowledge base to our beaders and readers.
Have a good one! Happy beading!
