sis
someone read these poll
all um...
numbers from reuters because
v you you one has to understand what has happened in the country in the wake of
sandy hook
to also understand
what uh... president obama and why president obama did what he did this
week
uh...
this is a poll from reuters taking mostly before
well bomber released his recommendations
seventy four percent of americans favor a ban on assault weapons
uh... twenty six percent oppose a ban on high-capacity ammunition clips is backed
by seventy four percent twenty six were opposed
eighty six percent favored expanded background checks of all gun buyers
including sales at gun shows in between private parties with fourteen opposed
uh... fourteen percent
we have said this is a big change on these numbers especially after seeing
maybe he background checks have been pretty constant because
the thing that that and on because most people look for those things where
unlikely people were saying that you know that they could become a republican
getting the benefit of doubt turned on my membership removed by selection
because when they've had there been a cut people's medicare people literally
just didn't believe owned by the poll rang up to about that you're reading to
those yes yes well it you know do you've you've got a similar thing here which is
the background checks numbers remain on because i don't think most people when
you talk to taxi believe it or you were back rent checks regularly couldn't
believe
but somebody
uh... who pointed ears talent
or terrorist
or or running a drug cartel or mentally in haiti or you or serial domestic abuse
or a legal non can walk into a parking lot somewhere and at the back trumpet
someone's car
could literally to show their i_d_ any would be legal at that point
all that showed driver's life for them to get a fifty caliber rifle that can
kick down a helicopter to get uh... paul weapon where you can walk into a school
newtown and motown twenty caved and six teachers administrators if you can
believe it
so they've always been with a plan and i think that in the warm all week to
explain it to people but maybe we can work at that the real change
enormous all-out and on the the the news clips to do just the fact of the
magazine the fact that
or you will not be high profile attack
virtually all of their captain obviously the tree one martin thing with high
profile but what that led to ur people trying to attack skinnier brown mark to
but in this particular case from aurora
accused on tvc campbell wisconsin do you know to what happened up in portland
oregon to immediately living in the recent tax the one the people mostly
forgotten dot had to put in a in a workplace ten minutes or they have in
this some are cafe racer the shooting in seattle bring much all these somebody
would be viewed firing high-capacity magazine
and so whereas literally i would tell you six months ago you you had a
plurality of people in favor abandoned however they would be like forty seven
to forty three year forty to forty two or it back together below fifty local we
are now
look what happens when the other side fights back what happened williamson
exposes the n_r_a_ alone for a being the horrors of of arms dealers that they are
um... n_m_e_ naval or of extremists of all stripes
uh... this is what happens because when people get the right information and and
and the other side you know is out there actually making the argument
and there've been some of us have been making it harder for a long time but
they're a lot more now you know um... it's what's fascinating to me about this
from
uh... from me
applicable politically
observing that the politics of this
and he he
there's is there's a certain consistency that we're seeing at the very least from
the obama administration on in anaheim perceive
this uh...
the this issue of guns to be a a social issue uh... and
that it is
ghari much tied into
the identity politics on the right the this notion of
it being a culture this notion again of you know i think there is no
right wing social issue that cannot be explained by the notion that someone's
common to get something from me they're coming to take my guns they're coming to
take away traditional marriage
uh... that come in a way to take uh... my job's there come in a way to take my
taxes it's you know that
convict right wing mentality is
always one that is under siege and they must mice uh...
create this sense that there are under siege as a way of activating their base
and whether it's the loss of traditional values or whatever it is some things
always under attack they're coming to take our guns that come at a car freedom
to come to take our liberty other coming to take our way of life eccentric center
and that it seems to me that uh... president obama we've now seen him
uh...
basically
old when it comes to marriage equality embrace that issue a support it when the
numbers got to be about fifty one percent
or or or more
of we saw
president obama embrace
uh... try send people per tend to forget that you know
it was not that long ago maybe eight years ago
two thousand four i think it was where we heard the democratic party
sort of attempting to make a shift in the same way they did in abandoning
uh...
uh... sensible gun control
back in a you know in the early to thousands
where they were started so that we have to reach across and i understand the
sensitivities here well that was thrown out the window in this last election
much to the benefit of the electoral prospects of president obama
and uh... inot and i would take that to the point where
uh... the uh... department health and human services put out that um...
that fairly innocuous
rolling about uh...
health insurance needing to provide birth control frankly any any it
basically the the right to debate sent or
ran with is'nt seriously
uh... hurt and uh... forced
romney to move to the right
uh... and we saw with marriage equality and now we're seeing it with guns that
uh... that the administration made the determination that
we have reached the tipping point where with if we come out now we're going to
push that needle even further but it's beyond the tipping point now
and in some ways it's it's working out the it would appear
uh... in a similar fashion as to marriage equality and
um...
basically the argument that women have sovereignty of from body
right will you and i love you and i discussed on these issues for a long
time ago issues are there
specific political issues but
communications and other things to the white house now
that first turned off and just feel like they didn't want to play
and especially they thought they were going to live
and that you know uh... our friend a beer a great post about it today about
important of having the fight
of making the argument in if you don't win the right understood that for you
because they moved the ball
you know they move the team
into what what is possible the next time around eight axles security that first
time in pale
but they're back again by design and until it's great to have been done
before bright you know end
that was driving are taking creating a cult of just the fact that
you have a bully pulpit pulpit you have a way to move numbers you have a
thirteen fourteen million member email listed trumped
the n_r_a_ membership membership of the national right to life committee or any
other group like that
unusually good unit
you know unit stuff you have to do in your high approval rating i mean want
whatever you do we need permit that election
but i before or gay marriage proposals going through i mean an open lesbian was
elected from wisconsin
which is to get a lot of rural area by the way
until she was elected from massachusetts to new york should like it was going to
which again aniline leather newly democrat democratic swing states
you know a a kitty i get killed hardly government
you know he is dealing with the mail financial deal with the interact
and you break it all there in the end
you know that which you could buy a study done by the what paul wall then
you could just look at
no electoral results
and you know on your own the continuity bake it at a point
e three percent return on investment the worst of any group
everybody pretty much everybody stood up to be at a rate of past elections lost
people that were to pro-gun will be in primary five more progressive people and
it happened again on gay rights and this happened on women's rights we elected or
crop of fantastic women
the entire delegation from new hampshire now
is winning
