Hi! My name is Shawna on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip, I’m going to demonstrate
how to do a drawstring waistband with the button holes. This particular elastic has
a drawstring through the middle of it, so it’s hard to sew them together. So what
I do if I’m doing a waistband, I have a seam at the front with my button holes, and
I’m tacking it down right next to the button, so that it doesn’t cover it, but it gets
it down and tacks it down. Then I’m able to still run my drawstring through it. Then
I can also take off that…it’s kind of like a basting stitch, so that it’s not
seen on the front. What I can do, I’m going to bring my drawstrings to the front through those button holes in the back. So
what I’m going to do is I want to make a casing now that’s going to go on top of
that.
And really what will make that tight is the drawstring when you’re ready to use that.
If you don’t sew through the drawstring, then you’re just fine. And that’s right
down the center, so you shouldn’t have a problem with that. It has a little bit of
give. I’ll take out those tacking stitches that I had on there because I don’t like
those. And there you go: you got a drawstring waistband with the elastic. So it has some
give, but it also has the drawstring. The drawstring stays nice in…it just stays right
in the center. It won’t creep up to the top at all.
