The first time I came in contact with Action for Children was when I left my parents house
and I stopped at a friend’s house for a while and then the social services put me
in contact with Action for Children. I was living in a car after being thrown out
through parents in Hastings. I just found an abandoned car full of parking tickets and
it became my home. I couldn’t really go back to my family so
I needed help with finding somewhere else to go because I couldn’t keep living with
my friend, it was quite difficult to do it by myself. I needed support from someone.
I spent three months in it and it was uncomfortable to start with.
My project worker Julia has been helping me with quite a lot, opening bank accounts and
getting me ready for college and going out buying stuff for college.
If I had not met anybody from Action for Children I don’t know. I don’t know what I would
have done. All I can say is thank you. I have been set a challenge of sleeping on
the streets of London, rough, for 24 hours. Some kids get a fiver from social services
to help them get through the day. I got a fiver, let’s see how I get on.
Think about what we have achieved through Byte Night is pretty fantastic. We have raise
over a million pounds. That’s brilliant but what I have seen tonight just demonstrates
to me that we still need to do so much more.
