martin luther king junior's birthday is being celebrated on january
twenty-eighth and a special days being held at the MassMutual Center
in downtown Springfield for anyone in Western Mass to come in it and
well to talk about this event but more importantly the impact that doctor king
had african-americans
is Ron Johnson president and CEO Martin Luther King junior Family Services
adding mccaffrey term Executive Director of Community Music School
and Benjamin Smith executive director a dream CD I thank you all for joining me
here today
how can you have in your on where to start with you this has been going on
for twenty twenty-five years
spray actually the for on for mine became Family Services Agency there's
always been a celebration
but actually since the dev Martin King arm
communities all across the country have celebrated his legacy
always around his birthday but an annual basis but this year
eyes a very special year in Syria Springfield and it's getting bigger and
bigger and bigger Eileen talk about that the first time around as hell that
Community Music School this time around it's being held at the MassMutual Center
huge factly so last year was our first year this collaboration so
Ron had invited both Benz organization in the community school together
to put this collaboration together in last year it was held that
are music school and which we are celebrating our 30th anniversary
and we were busting at the seams between the children that were involved and the
their families and we must have had five hundred people over the course the day
and so
kindly the MassMutual Center offered to
take that problem away from us the power love too many wonderful people wanted to
be a part in it
so this year will be held at the MassMutual Center are from 11
in the morning on January 28 until one o'clock
okay and now it up but dream studio being apart
Vista gotten performances and yes we are so excited
we have the opportunity to actually collaborate with the Martin Luther King
Family Services in the Community Music School in the courses
the buck eating the dancing it's gonna be 13 amazing event
and this collaboration has the opportunities %ah
to do workshops so we have workshops at the Community Schools
we have arm we have different
singing group coming in as well fries at the net the
Montazeri we have month King charter schools well
joining us was gonna be such a great day performances
song day and acting we doing it tribute to
22 mandela's is going to be so amazing and we just we dissect so excited about
all the artist
are coming together for the Sabbat and Eileen I know we're talking a camera you
mention the children
when they were allies it that place at the country the impact that doctor king
at had on their lives in
and we were talking about this to just at all it's like a big
circus-like complete the circle of life and not over is that cliche but
talk about the importance at this event I think part of it
is in the collaboration I think one other the opportunities to bring
different organizations together
different arts organizations and then also to engage the community arts
the art in Springfield are la alive and vibrant beautiful
and so for us we created these opportunities for workshops for
the children in the after-school programs in children who are indifferent
programs throughout the city that are working on either instrumental music or
music dance
bucket running there's so many wonderful things going on in this is an
opportunity for the children
who are working in these workshops all year long to be invited to be part of
something bigger than themselves
and to be part of this this day and it really connects them with the legacy of
doctor king
in moving did one day us I love
engagement celebration into something that lasts the whole year long bills
community
grandpa but the impact that doctor king's legacy has had
it's been tremendous arm his legacy are is one that
are really promote harmony arm and it opens the eyes them
in the hearts of individuals and what I'm publicly
excited about with this celebration is that we've gone from being sort of
siloed organizations perhaps doing
individual activities to doing something collectively and we have
very symbolically move this to main street
and by moving it to main street that means that its mainstream
that is assessable for everyone in the community to participate in
so was a celebration other cultures all the difficulties that are represented in
this community
so everyone's invited to come out and that is a lasting tribute to doctor
king's legacy
will it stand for peace harmony unity an equal rights an opportunity for all
people
and along with the seriousness series is that topic is also the
financial her they'd musical performances are the groups that are
coming together in practice thing I'm sure they're just
busting at the seams awaiting to show their study are they have so much energy
and the works up so we've been having on this that the emerging
through the *** in the complex in at the time people are taking on is amazing
and you'll see that energy on Monday that's great Monday the 28th
at 11 a.m. Benjamin Eileen and ron thank you all so much for joining us today
thank you and your happiness
