The Big Spanish Adventure
Our adventure begins Wednesday, May 5th 2010.
I leave from Harvard to meet up with Franzi in Central.
Good morning Franzi! What's going on?
All is good.
Shall we go on the train?
Very good. Goodbye!
We are waiting for the silver line bus to the airport to go to Philidelphia and Spain.
We are going to take this bus.
Good morning! This is Logan Airport.
We depart for Spain!
This is a big airplane.
We're flying!
It's night and everything is quiet.
Good morning. We are now here in Spain at the airport.
and we will now find the metro station to go to the hotel.
We're going inside now.
We have a pension right in the center of madrid.
Jason, the groom, had recommended this pension
and it is very nice and clean.
The restaurants are closed and all the shops too.
We're eating a bit of fruit.
Yeah. We bought this in Boston.
After breakfast, we go to the museum of modern art.
This is the famous painting, Guernica, by Picasso about the Spanish Civil War.
We also saw works by Miro and Dali.
This is the Puerto del Sol.
The name comes from a big gate that used to be in the plaza here.
And the gate was called Puerto del Sol and it had a large symbol of the sun on the gate.
But nowadays its not here anymore.
Rick Steeves... really good book!
Franzi is sleeping.
We didn't sleep at all last night.
This is a really really huge house for the king.
and the queen.
and the grandchildren of the king and queen.
For the entire family!
The next day we go to the Museo Del Prado.
We view a lot of works from Francisco Goya
and Valesquez.
This is my favorite.
We're eating a bit from the Comida Vegitriana.
Tasty!
This is all for Madrid, we're going to Murcia.
This is our new car
It's called Goya, after the famous painter from Spain, Francisco Goya.
A very small car.
Yes. A very small car, but a good a car.
This is the new room for two nights.
Its not terrible.
The first room from 10 minutes ago is a smoking room and this is not good.
Terrible, in fact.
But now we have a good room, non-smoking.
We go to the wedding of our friends Jason and Noellia.
Spanish, English and Latin is spoken.
After the wedding... eating!
Very good!
My name is Radhika, I know Jason from when we lived in Perkins Hall our first year at Harvard.
We're going to Jason's wedding, the reception actually.
We just finished the wedding at the Church of St. Nicholas
And we're heading to a restaurant for the reception.
After dinner there was singing and dancing.
This is a traditional Spanish chant for a wedding.
I'm having a great, time man!
I saw you singing and yelling in Spanish and everything!
Show us the Bottle! Show us the Bottle!
We're going from Murcia to Granada.
My tummy is a little upset and its not very good... its a little tragic.
We drive by the sea.
We're going to the beach and later we head to Granada to visit my friend from Stanford, Lizzie.
This is the Alhambra, which is the read fortress in Arabic.
We're going to the palace, which is the most highly decorated place in all of the Alhambra.
Water flows in the rooms and gardens.
We head from Granada to Toledo.
In Toledo, the streets are very narrow.
We're going to two Sephardic synagogues from the 13th and 14th century.
This is the end of our adventure.
We return from Spain to America.
Goodbye! Be in good health.
