Hello. I am Mari Miyazawa.
Today I will make a Halloween theme rice ball bento.
Please prepare a regular bento with 2 onigiri rice balls.
I will make faces on the two onigiris, so please make enough space to put each onigiri in the bento box.
I made a little square onigiri and a triangle onigiri.
the square one will be Frankenstein and the triangle one will be Dracula.
The image of Frankenstein is a green face with stitches.
So I will make those.
First, the green face. I boiled soy beans and mashed them.
I also sprinkled some salt on it.
Then coat the onigiri with the mashed soy bean on just one side. I will coat with nori sheet on the other side.
That way all the rice will stick together on the nori sheet, so it will be easy to eat.
Coat with soy bean paste thinly like so.
Cover with the plastic wrap to make the surface smooth.
Next, let's make the stitches.
I am going to make nori sheet for that.
cut the nori into thin strips like so. Now I am going to make his bangs.
and wrap the bangs around the rice ball using the plastic wrap.
And like I said before, I am going to cover the other side of it with the nori sheet.
Wrap it with the plastic wrap and set aside.
I will make his details such as eyes and stitches later, right before putting the rice ball into the bento box.
The image of Dracula is a pale face, so I will keep the rice ball as is.
Dracula has flat hair, so I am going to make that now.
Unwrap the plastic bag, cut the nori sheet like so.
Make the other side of his hair to cut the nori sheet like so.
I made a hair line here to split these two nori sheet. And cover it all the way to the back.
and cover the onigiri with the plastic wrap.
Let's place the onigiris into the bento box.
I will put Dracula first, and Frankenstein next.
I am going to make details of the stitches with nori sheet.
cut the nori sheet into thin strips like so and cut horizontally into short strips.
Okay we have many short strips.
Place these like this. It will look like stitches.
His nose will be just simple two holes, so cut the strip even shorter and make the nose holes.
I will use cheese to make his squinty eyes. Use the heart cookie cutter like so.
And place it onto the rice ball. Make eye balls using nori sheet like so .
So Frankenstein is ready.
My image of Dracula is nobly and has thin eyebrows.
I will use this punch because it has thin curved strips.
Place them onto the Dracula face.
I will place smiley eyes on him to make him look cute.
Place a mouth and fang.
Use nori sheet and cut into a little triangle, and place it here.
What's more Halloween than a Jack-O-Lantern?
So if you have it, the bento will be perfect.
I don't have a pumpkin at home today, but I had a small tangerine.
I will use this to resemble a pumpkin.
And draw something with a pen.
Just draw two triangles as eyes and then draw a mouth like this.
You can also use face part stickers if you have.
Now the Halloween bento is done.
but if you have extra time, add one more tip.
I used a white bento box today because Frankenstein and the Jack-O-Lantern have bright colors.
So it will stand out with the white bento box frame.
But Dracula is white, so it will not stand out as much.
Dracula has a black cape, and if you have something black under his face with the white bento box, he will stand out as well.
I am going to make the cape with the rest of nori sheet.
Cut it into two squares and place them like this to look like his cape.
How do you like this?
Just to add a little extra, Dracula stands out even more.
Please try it out.
