I look safe, right? But I can be your worst on-line nightmare . . . and you can be mine,
when we don’t think about cyber security. The threat is real and we must be proactive
to prevent identity theft, access to our personal, health and financial information, and hijacking
of our personal computers to create a powerful distributed network for harmful, criminal
activity. We don’t have to be naive or foolish. If you don’t know about secured networks,
firewalls, creating complex passwords, avoiding phishing scams, or safe surfing and social
networking practices, get help from a trustworthy source, such as the United States’ Computer
Emergency Readiness Team at www.us-cert.gov/cas/tips/. We can protect ourselves and others; the responsibility
for ensuring a safe internet environment belongs to all of us. So join me to promote cyber-security.
Stop. Think. And then Connect.
