[Voiceover, video of an Apple iPhone and iPod Touch] iPhone and latest-generation iPod Touch users
are now able to download two new apps from Western Illinois University.
The WIU News app and the College of Fine Arts and Communication, also known as the COFAC, app
are available as free downloads from Apple's App Store.
University Relations Director Darcie Shinberger: It's yet another way that we can send out University News
to students, faculty, alumni, the general public.
[demo of app, by Darcie Shinberger, on an iPod Touch] As you can see, the WIU News application is already downloaded on this latest generation iTouch.
[WIU News app being demonstrated] So when I want to find out what's going on at the University, I simply click on that...
...and numerous headlines comes up.
And, for instance, I want to learn more about 'Rocky Bikes'...
So I click on that [the 'Rocky Bikes' item on the screen]... and that just gives the first few lines of the press release or news item...
It gives me a little bit of information. And if I want to read more, I can click on this... [Shinberger clicks on arrow on screen indicating 'more'].
...and 'view in browser.' [Shinberger clicks on 'View in Browser' button that appears on the iPod Touch screen. The 'Rocky Bikes' news item then comes up in the browser .]
And enlarge. [Shinberger enlarges the screen of the iPod Touch.] And the entire story comes up.
COFAC Dean Paul Kreider: We now have one for our College, which gives access to various blogs that are published out there by each department.
[video shows demo of COFAC app]
And information on calendars and events that are happening. We have events, sometimes, three or four a day in the this College.
So students can easily access the app and find out what's happening tonight in the recital hall or in the theatre or in the art gallery.
[voiceover] To download the free applications, visit Apple's App Store through your iPhone or latest-generation iPod Touch
and search for 'WIU News' and 'COFAC.'
