Hello Beauties! Today I'm showing you a Ghassoul clay mask
Ghassoul is hectorite clay found naturally in Morocco.
It is said to be one of the most perfect clays in the world
because of its detoxifying, therapeutic and conditioning properties.
It's one of the traditional products that
Moroccan women have been using for centuries
for hair, face and body as part of the Hammam ritual.
Where to get it? You can also find it in natural hair sections.
If you buy Ghassoul clay, make sure it is finely milled or it would be too harsh on the skin and make crumbs.
If you prepare your mixture and realize it is not a fine buttery mix then take a piece of clean muslin cloth,
put the paste into it, close the tissue and squeeze the fine paste out of the cloth.
I buy my clay already infused with organic essential oils
but you can make your own by taking bland clay and adding a drop of eucalyptus, thyme and mint essential oils.
I use Moroccan rosewater as mixing medium along with some distilled water.
You can also use any herbal infusion as mixing medium, just avoid black tea.
Slather the fine paste on your face using your fingers.
You could use an inexpensive face or foundation brush if you'd like (if you use a brush, make the mask thicker).
But I personally like gliding my fingers on my face to smoothen all the mask.
You only need a thin layer, but could use a thicker layer for nose, T-zone or problematic areas where you might have blemishes.
I keep the mask for 10-15 minutes or until half dry.
Do not let the clay dry completely on your face.
If for some reason you need to keep the mask longer, just spritz your face with some mineral water to keep it moist.
You can simply wash your face with copious amounts of water and a sponge
Make sure you just wipe the sponge on your face and not rubbing it.
Do not apply too much pressure
especially if you have blemishes as this could irritate the skin. .
Now that I washed and dried my skin,
it feels a bit hot and tingly from contraction of the capillaries
because of all the essential oils
and the purifying action of the clay.
I spritz some mineral water and tap gently,
and then I pat excess water with a tissue.
This step is important,
if you don't dry your skin with a tissue ,
your face will become dehydrated
as water evaporates off your skin taking away moisture.
Voilà
I have squeaky clean skin..
Then I can carry on my night regimen with toner and moisturizers
