Hello and welcome to another one of my technical video
In this video we're going to look at the two thousand four (2004) Pontiac grand Prix
the COMP-G edition
Throttle Body
This is a drive by wire
Throttle Body
also known
has a
Motorize
Throttle Body
some people like to call it a Air Valve
an electronic air valve
it's also known as a drive by wire system
this throttle body
don't need removal for cleaning
all drive by wire throttle body
does not need removal for cleaning because there is no
Idle Air Control Valve
passageway to be clean
is always best to remove the throttle body
and clean the passage way behind
but since we have no passageway in this drive by wire and all drive by
wire throttle body
idle air control valve is controlled by this
Butterfly flap
so..if you have a drive-by wire throttle body
you do not need to remove it
for cleaning the bore
This throttle body
feature a mechanical section
and a Electronic section
the electronics is known as a control module
to take apart the sensors
from the throttle
body Air Valve you will need to remove these four (4) screws
their are security
TORX
so if required that special TORX like this
it has a hole in the middle
to remove the screw
when you remove screw you will simply pull the sensor apartment
This is a seal component
there is nothing you can do here
anything
concerning the electronics
Up here (appear)
would be
the throttle position sensor
on the bottom
are two connectors
for the stepper motor
the bottom portion
of the module
is what control the stepper motor .This call a electronic control module .
What does it control? it controls the throttle body butterfly
that's this portion right here
this is the part that goes bad (defective)
sometime
when you drive in the car it will not want to start
while driving that the pedal will accelerate and decelerate it all kind of
fun stuff that fun stuff will come from here because in here
are the electronic
to amplify and reduce the voltage that is send
to
the stepper motor
The control module
is just like a coil module
they both
displayed the same symptoms
it's about the technician
to retrieve the code
from the ECM (electronic control module aka PCM)
the throttle body
control module
is being replaced
because the ECM the electronic control module
display
code
P0120 (Pee Zero One Twenty)
P0120 (Zero one twenty)
The ECM will also displayed
it's code related to the throttle body sensor
and that code would also be a "P"
Zero
One twenty three (P0123)
throttle position sensor is above maximum
acceptable
voltage
also
code "P" Zero
one twenty-one (P0121)
TPS
Sensor
does not
correlate with MAP
signal
manifold
absolute
pressure..is the MAP sensor
Now let's take a look at the mechanical portion
of the electronic air valve
this Air Valve has a ninety
millimeter bore
it also feature
a synthetic rubber seal
If we look at the mechanics
of the Air valve
in the middle is gonna call a intimidate
sprocket
before replacing anything
make sure you check
the metal surface
and this pin right here
you don`t want to have any corrosion
very important that you don't have any corrosion close the corrosion will cause
the mechanism to stick/stuck
This will
falsely
diagnose
the coil module
so make sure
that all the mechanical parts
are greased
when you put it back together
when replacing
the electronic module to the throttle body
make sure
this slot right here
is position
to slide in on the shaft
also make sure that the electronic pin
on the bottom of the stepper motor
is connected
should be able to take a look at here
you can see the connection ,Has you pressed
the cover together
and then you would replace your security TORX (screws)
