I am here at the province of Ilo Ilo this is the small city of Estancia.
The seaside is completely destroyed by a big oil spill of bunker. I am not sure if it's bunker
but it sure is sticky and it's not coming out. All these people, about 1,200 families
were evacuated from here due to the danger of the fumes. The substance is really really
sticky and is yet to be determined, well by me, obviously they know what it is. No one
is allowed to live here, up to a 100 meters from the seaside. And the local veterinary
inspector is with us and we're going to try to provide for food and water for the animals
that were left behind. There are a few goats and dogs and I am sure there are a few other
animals, especially pigs, that cannot be moved untill they are ready to be sold. So, we will
do that. If you look at the stuff, it's really bad. And I don't know how they are going to
be able to clean this thing. Like, they never are. With the Exxon Valdez and the oil spill
we worked at in Puerto Rico, it's too bad. It has nothing to do with humans basically,
or human wrongdoing. It was just a barge that ran on the rocks with the typhoon. They should
have probably know better and not get out on the sea, or so close to this coast.
The police does not allow anybody to come without masks so let's see how we can put together
a feeding programme here.
