Kirk MacDonald: Are you recording? How do you like that so far?
Laughter
Kirk MacDonald: It's great to be nominated. This is actually my fourth nomination. I mean it's nice to get recognition but
it's certainly not why we do what we do, you know. The nomination itself is for my most recent CD, which is called,
Songbook Vol. 2. It was recorded here at the Humber Recording Studio with my quartet. I started playing music
very young. I grew up in a small town on the east coast. My older brother played music and a few kids in the neighbourhood
also played so we had a band together from the time I was eight years old. My first connection with this city was Humber
College so I attended Humber and I started playing professionally around town. When I look at what's happening
here now, you know, like the music business, like being a musician, like anything the program has evolved.
You've got choices. You come here you want to study saxophone, you've got four or five great people you can study
with, maybe more. You know, you want to study piano, same thing, if you want to study Cuban music they've got some
great Cuban musicians who live in the city.
