(music plays) ("Youths Fountain" by Mason)
Dylan: I was feeling good.
I graduated high school, my life was on track,
Mom: And all of a sudden, I get a call.
It's the next door neighbor in Las Vegas
telling me that Dylan's got some party going on.
I was [beep] pissed.
(music)
(racing engine sounds)
Dylan: Going into my race at Langley,
I was definitely a little bit on edge.
One, we didn't have my next year fully funded.
We didn't know what sponsors were going to be onboard.
Then two, on Monday, I was just celebrating
graduation so I had a few people over,
you could say,
and my mom thought it was like a full-blown
blow out and ended up freaking the heck out on me.
Mom: So this is your new nickname?
Dylan?
Dylan: Party.
Mom: Party Kwasniewski, right?
Are you the new party planner?
Dylan: As a consequence,
I got my American Express cut up,
then she said I wasn't going to be able to
live by myself and then I was like,
"Whoa, whoa!"
She judges, she makes all these accusations from
how far away is North Carolina?
Mom: It was Monday night, and you were
having a party loud enough to disturb the neighbors.
Dylan: Okay, was that worth cutting my credit card?
Mom: Yeah, and you know what?
Dylan: And taking away my privilege to
live by myself in North Carolina?
Mom: Yes, because you know what?
It's disrespectful ...
Dylan: Come on, it's one day that I get some of my ...
Mom: Not according to the neighbors,
she said it has to stop, so it wasn't just one day.
Dylan: Oh, did she call you?
Mom: Yeah.
Dylan: Ah.
Mom: For every decision there's a consequence.
Dylan: You're going to take away my privilege to live?
I'm not going to go move to North Carolina
if I don't get to live by myself.
There's no way I'm going to live with you
for another four years.
Mom: I don't really want you to live with me, either.
Dylan: Then get me an apartment.
Mom: I was pissed because he preaches about
being grown up, and yet this behavior is that
of someone who's a child.
I don't care if he has a few friends over,
but to be in the back yard and swimming
and making noise at that time,
people have to go to work.
He has no idea.
Wait, wait, wait, if you can't follow my rules
in my house, how are you going to
follow the rules of life?
What do you think Dad would do?
Dylan: He would say, "Good job for getting women."
Jen: Oh, it's all about the girls?
Dylan: I was just hanging out with a girl
the entire night, I didn't ...
Jen: But you think you have to throw a party
for 500 people so you can get one girl?
Dylan: Yeah, 500 people.
Jen: Whatever.
Voiceover: What if the one girls doesn't work out?
Gotta have a backup plan!
Jen: Hey! Whose team are you on?
Dylan: Look at his shirt!
That's whose team he's on!
Jen: I don't want to talk about parties anymore.
Dylan: Then give me my credit card back
and my apartment.
(music)
I'm 18 years old,
I feel like I've gotten to the point where
I'm definitely responsible enough to be on my own
and I don't need mama's help anymore.
Announcer: Welcome to Langley Speedway for
[the visit] Hampton, Virginia 175 ...
Sun beginning to go down here,
we've had rain showers in the area.
Dylan: The race before I had graduation,
that definitely pumped me up to go do good
and this week I had the whole ordeal
with my mom taking away the apartment,
so I think it might give me a little bit
of a drive to go out there and do good just
because I'm kind of like, so pissed off
in the back of my head.
Announcer: With rain cancelling qualifying
the grid set by points,
so Brett Moffitt and Dylan Kwasniewski
are going to make up row number one.
Voiceover: [inaudible]
just get some heat in your brakes
and you're going to be fine here.
Dylan: 10-4 [inaudible].
Announcer: Pace truck off the track,
Dylan: Come on, come on, come on ...
Track is green.
(racing engine sound)
Voiceover: Still down there ... Clear.
(racing engine sound)
Voiceover: Keep the tires on it.
You're better than him.
(racing engine sound)
Dylan: We were really fast at the beginning.
We kind of chilled in second place
for about 50 laps.
Announcer: Brett Moffitt looks as though
he might be holding up Dylan Kwasniewski.
Dylan: I'm going faster than Moffitt right now,
just trying to pick when I'm going to pass him.
Voiceover: You doing a hell of a job there.
Just keep doing what you're doing,
you're going to drive right by him.
Announcer: Kwasniewski has the better car,
but doesn't have the line yet to try to
get by Moffitt.
Kwasniewski all over the back bumper of Moffitt!
Into the inside he goes!
Dylan Kwasniewski trying to take the top spot
away from Moffit, and he does!
Announcer: Looks like there was just enough
contact to move Moffitt up the hill.
Voiceover: Good job, buddy!
Settle up in a rhythm.
Did you use the [inaudible]
known as straightaway back there or what?
Dylan: No, I just decided it was time to go.
I knew Moffitt was definitely slowing up and when
we passed him, I saw him falling back pretty quick.
Announcer: A bad night is getting worse
for Brett Moffitt, getting a push from the tow truck
and he's going to go behind the wall ...
Huge point implications for Brett Moffitt!
Dylan: But then once I saw him pull off,
I definitely saw that this could be
a turning point in the season and
I could get the upper hand on it.
Could take the points away right now.
Dylan: We are five to go right now,
I'm pretty sure we're going to be
real close to a green white checker.
Voiceover: Nice and smooth.
You're the best driver out there.
They can't beat you.
Bring it home, buddy.
Dylan: 10-4.
Come on, come on, come on ... Track is green.
(racing engine sounds)
Voiceover: Most of all, you gotta believe ...
Announcer: [Swarez] hangs in there on the outside,
no, he's going to duck in behind Kwasniewski.
Dylan: Coming to the white ...
Announcer: Kwasniewski's going to get the white flag!
One to go!
Dylan: Go by three here ...
(racing engine sounds)
Coming to the checker ...
(revving engines)
Announcer: Dylan Kwasniewski wins at Langley!
Jen: (screams)
Dylan: WHOO! THAT WAY, GUYS!
WHOO! YEAH, THAT WAY! WHOO!
Jen: Way to go, you guys!
Dylan: Crossing the finish line in first place,
it's the best feeling.
Oh yeah, baby! We are partying tonight, boys!
Announcer: The 18 year old out of Las Vegas, Nevada
claims his third win of the 2013 season.
Dylan: Just be easy on it, please.
And for our [inaudible] guys, I call her "fat ***" ...
There's no other better feeling because
you know that you beat all the other
25 cars that were out there trying to do
the same exact thing as you.
(music)
When I go out there and win races,
I really hope that sponsors and everybody else
that is looking at me sees that I'm doing well
and I'm doing what needs to be done.
I want to show them that I'm matured
and I'm improving each time I go out into the track.
Jen: That's is awesome!
Dylan: My mom, I think she was definitely
a lot eased after I won the race.
I love when that happens because I can just
go into it and go, "Look, come on Mom,
just give me a break. I won. Come on,
I did everything I was supposed to do,
just stop beating me up."
She usually backs down, so it's always good
whenever I go out there and win.
Jen: It's kind of like that tug of war in my heart
like, "No you can't have your credit card back.
I'm so happy, okay, you can have an apartment."
(music)
Narrator: Next on Flat Out.
Dylan: Got some time to spend at the shop
and talk to Kenzie, one of my teammates,
and it was cool to get to know her
a little bit more.
We're dealing with the same stuff.
We both don't know what we're going to do next year.
