access to cinema for people who are
hard of hearing or deaf has been an ongoing issue
and certainly the deaf
community of Ballarat
has been quite active in trying to
have a conversation with
the local cinema however long period of time about
providing captioned options at the cinema
but we also link them in
with the national campaign that's going on at the moment
around access to cinema so
hopefully will see some
movement around that
in the future I guess and hopefully it won't take too long
uh... certainly
the five major chains in melbourne
are going through a trial at the moment and then we'll be talking to the
independent cinemas
about how they'll provide that access over time
so things are moving, it is slow but certainly I guess because the Ballarat
deaf community's been having
a desire to have access to captioned cinemas
in this region
we've done our best to try and link them to the national campaign
to I guess lend their voice to the bigger issue we've gone through a bit of a
change in terms of
uh... there's a bigger national movement
and currently there
are conversations happening I guess they can
uh... write to their own
local cinema chains
expressing their
desire to have access to cinema
but certainly
nationally we're looking at new technologies to make
that actually happen so
that's why there's trials in Melbourne and Sydney in a few other
places at the moment yes if you go to Facebook and uh...
type in access to cinema
hopefully you'll find
the discussion
page up there and the lobbying page
