What do we mean by industry-ready designer? Well it turns out that design students graduating
today are not quite ready to start their jobs. They have a lot of great knowledge and theory
about what good design is about, but they just haven't had the chance to practice it.
They haven't had the chance to work with people on projects that really get to the heart of
things. They haven't taken things all the way from the concept through development.
And because of that, they're not ready to start their job because they don't have the
experience that hiring managers need to put them to work. So we're structuring the Unicorn
Institute to make sure that all those things are covered. Our students are going to work
on projects that go from conception all the way through the deployment process so they'll
have experience actually dealing with the constraints of development. And they're going
to work in teams with other folks. They're going to work an 8:30-5:30 day, everyday so
that they understand how to work in a workplace. And they'll be ready to sit down, buckle in,
and do a great job. Having the knowledge and skills necessary to be ready for the industry
that they're moving into. That's what we mean by industry-ready designer.
