For my Gridplay session, I tried to select sounds that can stand on their own as interesting and cute (kawaii)...
Sounds that are engaging for the user.
When I was little I used to play with Legos, and what I do now (making music) is not so different.
It wasn't about studying very hard, I was just really into creating things.
I was a quiet kid.
Even if the music composition sounds nice, many individual sounds weren't suited, sonically or aesthetically for Gridplay…
And that was difficult to figure out.
I wake up, eat, start up the computer, and it's like working down to the minute, to the last 10 seconds.
I also like to create the sounds from scratch, but I don't use them straight from recording.
I usually mix them with other synthesized sounds.
I’m obsessive about the sounds I use and I often end up creating my own chords...
So I must love the “thinking” part the most.
Some people think I’m strange because of it, but I just want to understand how things work.
I tried using sounds that have a wet, moist quality, since not many people use them.
While creating for Gridplay, it felt like I was discovering a whole new self, so that was a really fun experience.
There are many people who are active on the internet but haven't released CDs.
I gathered those whom I really liked and wanted other people to hear, and started Bunkai-kei Records as a hobby.
There are quite a few people I work with that I still haven't met in person.
What we have right now consists of people we reached out to, through friends and those who love to hear their music.
Well, I did what I could.
I got to meet other artists through Bunkai-kei, and of course we influence each other, and my sound keeps changing.
When I'm done, I feel happy and there's a sense of accomplishment, which is good.
If there's only despair, it would be hard to continue, but I don't really feel that way.
It's excitement and anxiety at the same time, like I'm really high but my arms are shaking.
I'm melting into the music, and when I move my arms the crowd loves it.
It's like I'm the music, like I'm invincible.
