So you're going to have to come around. Drive around the back, and we'll get you set up in here.
I'm Shayna Stevens and I'm working for the University of Waterloo for my co-op term as the administrative co-ordinator for the Canada Day celebrations.
So I guess you could say that I organized Canada Day, but with a lot of help from a lot of different people.
I really wanted a campus job, the opportunity to plan such a big event seemed just very interesting to me.
OK Jeff, we'll work on it.
Thanks.
My name is Steve Chai and I'm a Centre for Pavement Technologist and Transportation Research Assistant.
Most of the work that I've been involved with is with pervious concrete. Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete where it has high veracity,
so it allows water to enter through to sort of slow down the run offs and to sort of to catch the contaminants on the surface.
City of Hamilton is using pervious concrete to build a parking lot, and we are trying to help them with how well pervious concrete will perform in their community.
My name is Angela Graham and I'm a 4th year Environment and Business student. This term my co-op position is working with a geography professor,
and we're working on a project that's looking at waste picking activities in Cambodia and Indonesia.
At the beginning of my co-op term I was actually fortunate enough to meet Brent Doberstein, the professor I'm working with, in Cambodia.
And we were actually able to go to one of the waste sites. I was able to first hand see these kinds of activities, so it really gave me a much better idea of their health conditions and working conditions.
My job consists of actually taking data that has been collected over the past 5-6 years and trying to determine the best way possible that we can put a pilot program on the ground, and physically try and help these people.
Overall, working for the university for co-op has been really great.
I'm very lucky and I get to work wherever I'd like to because I bring my work with me, with my laptop and just the documents I'm working with,
and it's my last co-op term, so it's really nice that I can be doing something that I feel is very meaningful.
I found working for the University of Waterloo to be really exciting and challenging at the same time.
They really trust co-op students. They tend to give a big project and big role to a student, trusting that the student can carry a role and take it to another step.
Canada Day was amazing. It was the longest day ever, but it went by so quickly. It was exciting. I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment.
I can't actually believe that we pulled it together. In terms of job skills, I learned a lot about, a lot more about what multi-tasking, as well as follow up.
I learned skills about how to communicate with people on the phone. Being the administrative co-ordinator was one of the best experiences of my life. I wish I could do this again, I really do.
