ralph nader is calling for an end to athletic scholarships ok he says that's
uh...
that we should basically get rid of all american scholarships and we should
really focus on people
that need to scholarships so she we should give the money to those who can't
afford to go to college can afford to pay their tuition
and those who are getting scholarships for you know college sports and things
like that
we should end it completely
i don't quite agree with this in fact i don't agree with that at all think if we
can give scholarships to as many people as possible we should do it and you can
use caution for anything you get a scholarship for having brown hair you
can get a scholarship for having me i don't know when apple shaped body it
doesn't matter their scholarships available
i don't think we should and uh...
because that
because people more needy also need scholarships less conscience for
everyone this is what this is focused possitive we'll the sports related he's
focused yankees focusing specifically on ending up sick scholarships and
realistic
i think that what he is worried about is the fact that you know the students kind
of
weasel their way i think that is the way he's making it seem into colleges and
universities it and it's not based on you know there
lack of it at the it's not based on their education their level of education
it's not based on how dot more what their achievements were in high school
it solely focused on
you know whether they were good at basketball or football whatever's type
of sports they participated in high school
another thing that he argues about is that's gone
these athletes are you know being mistreated he says will use the parents
of athletes who have been mistreated and sick and force the play when they're
injured i don't i don't know too much about college sports but i don't know if
they're forced to play with a richard i don't know if they are mistreated
but my take on it is usually win they get a full right to a college or
university in their play sports they're doing something that they love in
something enjoy
as far as the mysteries prior case by case so much too
almost eerie something that i didn't
but you know that's come up with certain people
and anything initiative take a picture
import of the c_v_r_ play in this man
has it's it's a business is a huge business
they made a lot of money off it
it's not like these the institutions and let these kids in a light off
coming to destroy my classroom
the school gets nothing for that
but was there aren't we have to let in these apathetic *** stupid notes
that's not the case of impotence so much
for let for giving std is the minimal amount of money that giving to accolades
that that
to what make the more billions of dollars in their school and of course
that has on the school
this small schools is big schools are certain sports and bring in millions of
his ones that don't
but to say that all they're doing is destroyed
institution because again the scholarship to play sports and bring it
into university
how much is going to be schools
they have no athletic ability because i call
they've got a football as fun
ludlum inc that part part of the decisionmaking is this a how fun it is
to movies football games are photos of the battle against or a great day
memberid growing up in watching are missed in playing basketball back in the
day things like that
may not always
transition right to just giving all this might have to swiss bank
of in michael
by the way real quick michael before you make a point and i just want to say he
also proposed up an idea that i i i can get behind or at least have a
conversation about
and he's saying look why don't you never city street these abn treat college
sports as a separate entity and basically allow the students to get cake
but completely separated from academics so basically you don't give them a
scholarship to go to your college or university based on their applicability
up but if you want to recruit them for your college sports team okay that makes
sense for you should also pay pay them for playing sports when you think about
that michael
i think that the you know that's the best thing that nader him up with i
think that this is clearly babe pig
money based
issue for nader and he's very good at starting conversation but he's you know
i think he's totally wrong headed i agree with you on this
personal the the the way they can give all these academic scholarships a lot of
the schools is because the money they make it from their conferences and the
t_v_ contracts for these athletes he's reacting to go over reacting to eight a
sort of a new thing in sports in college sports over the past ten or fifteen
years which is that college but aptly to leave after one year and they get the
scholarships and it seems like they're used but but because in thailand it's
the rare college s athlete that can go pro like that and on every football team
their female thirty five other guys who are not going to go pro horton there for
school
and also playing football and that was their ticket to a good education selfish
you know i i think that it's you know i i think don't like the guy but he does
started the conversation and paying athletes yeah i think that that's going
to happen eventually i think there's going to be a way of getting right now
they are still restricted these athletes eventually i think they're going to be
but it's all about money and it's not even a turtle think that it's a
let me personal he probably objects to the money but it's not even to think
that uh... do you just do away with the scholarships and that's a good for the
schools it's terrible for the other scholarships as well and in fact the
lottery the lotteries go to school
review of these these apple these athletes make money for the schools in
the sports programs themselves make money for the schools that helps them to
tenured the professors and tim than to have other you know
solid rip snorter yeah that's a great point and especially considering the
fact that right now
out all of these colleges and universities across the country are
facing these massive cuts in funding
you know it get doing away with the sports teams are creating treating them
a separate entities would be terrible idea
