NIGEL POWELL: AdSense was a complete revelation to me.
I never imagined it would work, number one.
STEVE GOODER: --Contextual element, all of it, and that
the ad server adopt relevant to the content.
PETER KLEE: It's not just about the actual earnings on
that particular day.
I think it's about creating an environment.
It's just more interesting and more useful to people.
NIGEL POWELL: Considered it to be value-add for my readers.
The fact that it was contextual, and the fact that
I had seen it in action on other sites, and actually
being interested in what was displayed, and wanted to click
on it, implied to me that it was better than getting these
horrible blinking banner kind of ads on my site, which had
no relevance to my content.
PETER KLEE: And it's got to be more interesting for someone
looking at a cinema review type page to see movie clips.
It's just got to be a better route, even if you're not
earning as much on that particular day, maybe you are,
maybe you're not.
It is going to pay off in the end, because it's actually
relevant content.
NIGEL POWELL: And because a blog is a very personal kind
of thing-- it's my voice.
And I want my advertising to reflect my voice and my
personality, and I wan't to reflect my
content, if you like.
AdSense kind of did that.
STEVE GOODER: And the ability to be able filter out
competitors and inappropriate ads adds to it.
So, no, generally, very good--
JAMES CRIDLAND: If I can earn 20% out of that unsold spot,
then therefore, at least I'm earning 20%
instead of earning zero.
I would certainly read up on what other people say, whether
it's in the forums, whether it's in the official AdSense
blog, or whether it's in other blogs, which are also very,
very useful.
JONTY PEARCE: From what I understand talking with people
at Google, they seem to say that we do get more than 50%.
So on average, that stacks up.
Whether we're getting different percentages or not,
I have no idea.
JAMES CRIDLAND: if I was giving advice on how to
improve Google AdSense, then first you
would have to pay me.
Secondly I would say probably having an API so that advanced
users can actually query straight into the reports, and
actually work out what site's working rather than having to
go to a website all the time.
It would be very useful.
WALTER PALMA: And actually what we see from many brand
name publishers, it actually works to have AdSense as an
add-on toward your [UNINTELLIGIBLE], as an add-on
to [UNINTELLIGIBLE] agencies.
And those revenues can actually be very significant.
So you should benefit from both your [UNINTELLIGIBLE] and
[UNINTELLIGIBLE].
