The spending gap between the haves and the have-nots keeps expanding...
Latest data shows the richest 20 percent of Korean families now spend nearly seven times
more money on education than the bottom 20 percent.
Statistics Korea says that the top 20 percent spent over 500-thousand won or 470 U.S. dollars
a month on education last year, compared to the lowest 20 percent who spent just over
70 dollars a month. Experts say high-income families spend more
on education so their children can maintain or improve the family's social status.
Around 40 percent of people surveyed in a separate report last year felt their kids
would exceed their social status, while 44 percent believed they would slip down.
