Hi everyone, and welcome to Module 3.
Last week you learned about the differences between online and face to face instruction
and learning, and created a discussion prompt and a presentation summarizing some relevant
educational research. Many of you are in the process of revising your discussion prompt
– you do not need to make those changes in the discussion forum. Your changes will
be made to the wiki project, which is the part that is graded for the portfolio.
The purpose of the discussion is to help you better refine your ideas, which then get incorporated
into the portfolio project. It’s perfectly okay to have your rubric or guidelines and
the specifics of the prompt in the wiki project only.
To edit your wiki project, look for the drop down arrow in the top right hand corner of
the content block, and click “edit.
This week we are focusing on the role of the teacher in the online environment.
You should notice a fairly significant change in the look of this module. In order to make
it easier to remember to go to the weekly readings, I’ve changed the look of the block
that takes you to the external site. Look for the big image of the book and the globe,
along with an outline of the week’s readings.
There are three assignments for this module:
After completing the reading, you will create a Venn diagram comparing teaching online and
on ground. You may use any tool you choose, as long as you can embed or upload the file.
Please try to make your diagram visible within the wiki project, rather than making your
classmates have to click to download it.
The portfolio assignment this week, 3.2, is the Bloom's Taxonomy Activity. You must write
a description of an assignment using three different Web 2.0 tools, and explain how you
can use those tools to move students towards higher levels of cognition. Check the rubric
for the specifics.
And finally, your discussion this week is about the way that online instruction requires
changes in the role of the teacher.
So, have a wonderful week, and I’ll see you online!
