This course is designed to take you inside the Google Document app, which is part of
the free Google Drive Service, to create word processing documents. So the Document app
provides a simple and easy-to-use word processor, with simple tools to allow you and your students
to organize, create, and collaborate with documents. While word processing may not sound
as exciting as, say, summer break, there are great features that can make the work you
and your students do more efficient and effective. The Document app is part of the Google collection
of resources, and it works a lot like Microsoft Word, Apple's Pages, and other similar programs,
but with just the essential features offered. We start this course with an overview of the
Document app, then we move onto how to use the great features inside of it, such as publishing
documents online, importing files, the menu tools, word processing basics, mobile word
processing, and classroom application ideas. Our goal is for you to become confident and
inspired with new ideas on how to integrate word processing into your instructional environment
through using the Document app. All that you will need is a free Google account, provided
by your school or district or set up on your own, a laptop, tablet, desktop, smartphone,
any other device that can be connected to the Internet. We encourage you to practice
any skill or new idea as soon as you learn it by pausing the video, trying it out, then
resuming the episode. We look forward to being your guide as we journey into learning more
about the potential of using the Google Document app in your instructional environment.
