Our industry relationships are on the cutting edge of what's happening in media globally,
so our experience with our international students is that the skills that they're learning here
at Media and Communications are global skills.
The reason I chose to come to RMIT was because I found out that our course in here is fantastic,
It's very practical and gives you a lot of choice. They have a relationship with the
industry which gives the students a lot of experience, that's what we need before we
start to work.
I chose to do a TAFE course because I had already done a masters here and that gave
me - let's say a theoretical background, but TAFE is really about building up your skills
and it's very connected to the industry employers are looking for.
Our students have access to a variety of our industry partners so that includes television
and radio, games companies, interactive companies. Given the access to professional gear and
facilities and teaching staff they have, we find that our graduates are in high demand.
I've still got one more year til graduation and I'm starting to find freelance jobs, because
I do design quite well so they are starting to pay me money.
It's pretty good because you are required to make things in a professional way, it's
not just an assignment to get a mark, you are thinking, I'm going to show this to future
employers or maybe to get it into a festival or something.
There's been success in the past at things like Tropfest and Oberhausen, and Annency
for some of our animators, and it's really great to interact with our graduates once
they've been out in the industry for a couple of years and find out that they're doing these
amazing things that we never envisaged - but it's great to see it happening.
