Hi everyone, I'm Mitch Stone, your hair styling expert.
If you have long hair, you're no stranger to the ponytail.
It's a timeless, versatile look you can wear to the gym,
or out on the town.
I'm going to give you some tips on creating the perfect ponytail
in just a few easy steps.
The first thing you want to do is get a nice brush,
a bristle hair brush.
The number one thing about a great ponytail is smoothing out
all the lumps and bumps.
Just keep smoothing it -- pulling it into your hand
until you feel like you've got it tight.
The one thing I love to do is pull straight up
from the temple.
It just accentuates your cheekbone and it's just
a nicer look all around.
It's not that easy, but you just take your time
and keep smoothing it.
While you're doing it yourself, make sure you hold your hair
with your non-dominant hand, and then keep it firmly
in your hand.
This bungee holder right here is amazing because what it does is
it allows you to just twist it around the hair
so it's custom fit for your hair.
So you basically just hook it into the hair, keep twisting it
until it's nice and tight, and then you just hook it
right around the other hook, so it won't slide out.
So once you've got your bungee in there, basically what I do is
take a little spray and just kind of really get in there
to lock it in, and again, here on the temples,
it's a key to making your jaw look strong.
It really makes you look pretty.
Just give it a little bit of spray just to hold everything
where it's supposed to be.
So here we have a gym ponytail, but if you wanted to dress it
up, if you're going out at night, you can just take a
little piece of hair like this, and just grab it and kind of --
I like to twist it, and you just keep twisting it
around the bungee so you don't see it.
It hides the bungee and gives you that great look you see
in all the magazines.
And basically you just keep twisting, and then you take
a little spray, and then what I do is I take a little bit of
a bobby pin, and I just pin it right in there like that.
The other option is, to hide the bungee cord is -- and I love
this option -- you can get a piece of material, you can
get so many decorative things at your beauty supply store.
Even the local pharmacy has them.
Here on Carolyn, I'm going to use a bungee cord
with little decorative shells on it.
Once you've got the bungee in there,
you just take another one and you just kind of put it
right over, because it's already been held in place.
So now you just kind of go through there
and pop it on there.
You've got a great little decorative thing that
gives you some color.
So this is where you can use your own creativity,
and it just gives you a little color, something unique
and individual for yourself, and that's it.
You pop it in, it takes an extra second, and there you go.
Whether simple or sophisticated, the ponytail is a classic updo
that never goes out of style.
Thanks for watching.
I'm Mitch Stone and I'll see you next time.
