Now that I've got the tank wiped out with the anti-microbial cleaner, what I did was
I took all the things that were in his cage, all the decorations, all the food and water
dishes, and perches and what not, and I soaked them in a hot soapy water, and washed them
with a little scrub brush. I used the anti-bacterial dish soap. I like that for washing all my
reptile supplies. First, I'm going to spray down the inside of the tank and around the
edge here and anywhere there are cracks and crevices with a point five percent bleach
solution. This will kill any remaining bacteria that is left in this tank. It will make it
completely safe for my bearded dragon to go back into. I'm going to go ahead and spray
that down. I'm going to spray the entire inside. Make sure there's a good mist over all the
walls. I need to make sure I get around the rim here so that it gets into all those little
cracks.
I don't necessarily feel it's that important for the whole outside to be cleaned with this
bleach solution, I think the wipe out does a good enough job for the outside. It's the
inside I'm mostly concerned about. So I'm going to let that sit for awhile. This needs
to sit for about five minutes, ten, the longer the better. I'm going to spray down the structures
that were inside of his tank with this five percent bleach solution also. With the wood
you can soak it in bleach water, but I wouldn't recommend it. I just wash mine with dish soap
and hot water, and now I'm going to spray it down with that bleach solution and I'm
going to let it air dry. This is something that is not going to be toxic for your lizard.
It's perfectly safe to do this. They say you can even dip your, all of your structures
in bleach water, and then let it air dry, and call it good. I agree, except for the
food and water dishes, I'm a little more picky about it. I just don't like the thought of
my animals eating or drinking anything that had bleach on it. So I'm going to let this
air dry, that's a good enough little coating. Now for the little things. Go ahead and I'm
going to turn them over so I make sure and get everywhere, I don't miss anything. So
the plant should be fine but this rock, I'm just going to give this one little final coating
here. I wanted to make sure it got into all the different cracks and crevices, so spray
all sides. Now for the food and water dishes, like I said I'm going to spray this down and
I'm going to let it sit, probably until dry, but then I'm going to go ahead and give these
food and water dishes one final rinse with regular plain water to make sure that I remove
all the bleach that's been on them.
