Using the discussion board is one of the key elements of interaction in your online course.
To create one, simply follow these steps;
1. Go to https://lssc.blackboard.com/ and log in with your X-ID and password.
The default should be your six-digit birthday.
2. Select your course from the course list under the heading, Courses where you are: "Student."
3. Under the Course Menu on the left-hand side of your screen click "Discussions."
4. Now you should see the Discussion forum page. From here you may post discussion threads
and reply to discussion threads.
5. To post a discussion thread, select a discussion from your discussion list. There should always
be a number of discussions that are already up. For this example, click
"Q&A Discussion Board."
6. You should now see the discussion forum page. In the top left-hand corner of the content
area you should see a grey button labeled "Create Thread." Click this button to create
a discussion thread. You will be directed to a new page.
7. On this page there is a place to insert a "Subject." This is the title of your thread.
It should hint at what content of your post is about.
8. Now direct your cursor to the text field below the "Subject" line. This is where you
will type in your message to be read by others, including your instructor.
9. In the right-hand corner of the text field there are double arrows. You may click these
to drop down the text tools provided. It looks a lot like the tools you see in MS Word doesn't
it? That is because they are! Font styles, colors, sizes, inserting images, videos, files
and more are all included here. Make sure to take some time to play with these tools.
10. Once you have typed your message in the text field, click the grey button at the bottom
right-hand corner labeled "Submit." This will direct you back to the forum page. You should
see your newly created thread here. That is how you post a thread!
11. To reply to a thread, select one in the forum list.
This will open the post so you can read the content.
12. On either the top left or bottom right-hand corners, click the green button labeled "Reply."
This will direct you to a page that looks very much like the one you interacted with
when creating a thread. You may create a new "Subject" title if you wish, or keep the default.
Enter your response into the text field.
13. When finished, click the grey button at the bottom right-hand corner of the page labeled
"Submit." Now you should see the initial post and your reply beneath.
14. Congratulations, you have learned how to create a thread and reply to others.
